Today, I bring you a special recommendation for anyone looking for a Konkuk University pub with a unique atmosphere and great food: Zinmac.
Upon visiting, I found myself wondering about the origin of the name “Zinmac.” Could this have been a clinic before? Was the chef once a doctor? Or perhaps the chef is the son of a doctor?
While I still don’t know the exact story behind the name, what I do know is that Zinmac is a place full of charm and character, with a vibe that’s both calming and thoughtful. The curated music played throughout the space was so aligned with my personal taste that I felt immediately at home.
Overview, Konkuk University Pub, Zinmac
What really won me over was the combination of the ambiance and the delicious homemade dishes—it felt like a friend had invited me over for a carefully prepared meal. If I could sum it up, Zinmac is a place that helps you unwind after a tough day. It’s the perfect spot for recharging your energy—which is exactly what happened when I visited.
Location:
Located in a hidden corner of the bustling Konkuk University pub district, Zinmac might not stand out at first glance, but once you find it, the understated charm draws you in. I parked at the nearby Hwayangdong Public Parking Lot (2,400 KRW per hour) and walked over in about five minutes.
Business Hours:

Interior of Konkuk University Pub, Zinmac
The interior of Zinmac feels like a nostalgic nod to the past.
With furniture that looks like it could have come from an old clinic or even a traditional Korean home, it creates a cozy and inviting atmosphere. There are tables for two, four, and even a bar area, so it’s well-suited for any type of visit—whether you’re on a solo outing or meeting up with friends.
The details in the decor are what make Zinmac stand out. From the lace-covered lights to the use of traditional Korean furniture like the lacquerware wardrobe doors, everything feels thoughtfully curated. The space feels like a blend of old and new—like stepping into a set from my favorite theater production, Sleep No More. You can almost feel the scene coming to life with its various small details.
There’s a self-service water station, which serves ice-cold water in chic jugs that match the overall aesthetic.
The open kitchen and bartender station create a connected space where you can watch your food being made while enjoying a drink. Zinmac really knows how to craft a memorable, immersive experience.
The other hall, mirrors the space on the opposite side, with one wall covered entirely in mirrors, making it feel like a rehearsal studio. The other wall is stacked with LP records, which explains the sophisticated and laid-back music selection that fills the air.
While it’s unclear if the space is designed for live performances, the retro lighting gives it a photogenic vibe that’s perfect for snapping pictures.
The chef-curated music consists mostly of LP records, giving the place a classic, nostalgic ambiance. And if you have a song in mind, you can request it – Zinmac is happy to play tunes based on customer requests, adding to the venue’s interactive charm.
To top it off, there’s a dartboard in the corner that’s perfect for a lighthearted game after a few drinks. The dartboard and the quirky dog statue add another layer of personality to Zinmac, making you want to revisit and ask the story behind these interesting elements.
Menu:
The menu at Zinmac is designed like a newspaper, filled with the brand’s story, food descriptions, and, of course, their standout dishes.
The drinks menu includes everything from soju and draft beer to cocktails, whiskey, and wine. It’s a perfect place whether you’re coming in for a full meal or just looking to enjoy a light snack with drinks.
Menu Highlights:
- Steamed Surf Clam (with pasta): 15,000 KRW (+2,000 KRW for pasta)
- Gambas al Ajillo: 16,000 KRW
- Pulled Pork Kimchi Fries: 12,000 KRW
- Draft Beer (Red Rock): 5,000 KRW per glass
Drink and Food Review of Konkuk University Pub, Zinmac
We ordered three Red Rock beers—which came ice-cold and perfectly crisp. As someone who appreciates a good draft beer, Zinmac truly delivers on its reputation as a draft beer specialty pub.
Our first dish, the Gambas al Ajillo, was exceptional. The prawns were plump and perfectly cooked, and the dish came with fresh bread to soak up the flavorful garlic-infused olive oil. It’s easily the best gambas I’ve had in a while.
Next, we tried the Steamed Surf Clam, a dish I highly recommend. We opted for the pasta version, and it was filled with briny clams and rich flavors that made for a comforting and satisfying dish.
Lastly, we had the Pulled Pork Kimchi Fries—a happy accident after a miscommunication in our order. However, it turned out to be an unexpected delight, with tangy kimchi and jalapenos adding a spicy kick to the crispy fries. It’s like a Korean version of poutine, and I loved every bite.
