Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon – Comforting Chinese Food After a Long Day
As time goes by, hospital visits seem to come more often than they used to.
Whether it’s annual checkups or follow-up appointments, most of mine now take place around Seoul National University Hospital or Gangnam Severance Hospital.
On one of those tiring days—after medical appointments and a long meeting—I found myself hungry in a very specific way. Not starving, but craving something warm, filling, and dependable. Since my father and I were heading home together, we decided to stop for dinner nearby. That’s how we ended up at Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon, located right across from Gangnam Severance Hospital.

Interior Atmosphere of Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon

Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon feels closer to a proper Chinese restaurant than a casual neighborhood takeout spot.
The lighting is soft, with warm red lantern accents that create a calm, polished mood. The main hall features mostly two- and four-person tables, while a private room in the back accommodates group dining. There’s also a semi-private section near the entrance.
Because there is only one group room, reservations are recommended for gatherings of six or more people.
For solo diners, couples, or quick meals after work, the layout feels comfortable and unpretentious.
Lunch hours are busy due to the surrounding offices, but evenings—especially on weekdays—are noticeably more relaxed. Weekend evenings are the most comfortable time to visit.
High chairs are available, making it family-friendly as well.
Menu Overview at Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon
The menu at Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon is extensive and well-structured.
It includes:
- Classic Chinese stir-fried dishes
- Seafood-based specialties such as abalone and sea cucumber
- Familiar favorites like fried rice and noodle dishes
- A selection of Chinese and Korean alcoholic beverages
There are also multi-course set menus available for two or more guests, which appear well-curated and ideal for special occasions. However, for this visit, we chose to keep things simple—one shared dish and one main dish per person.
Adults are required to order one menu item each, while children are exempt, which feels like a thoughtful and reasonable policy.
Food Review of Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon

Chinese food arrives quickly, and Daehyangyeon is no exception. Not long after ordering, our table filled with dishes.
Yuringi (Fried Chicken with Sweet & Sour Sauce)

The yuringi arrived beautifully plated and immediately inviting.

The chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and evenly coated with sauce—not soggy, not overpowering. Fresh vegetables like cabbage, lettuce, and microgreens added brightness and texture, balancing the richness perfectly.

It works equally well as a main dish with rice or as a sharing plate with beer.
Seafood Jjamppong

The seafood jjamppong was deeply satisfying.

The broth was rich without being overly spicy, making it approachable for most diners. A whole octopus, along with shrimp, clams, and other seafood, made the dish feel generous and hearty.

Even when full, it was hard to stop spooning up the broth—it had that comforting depth that keeps you coming back for one more bite.
Old-Style Fried Rice

The unexpected highlight of the meal.

The fried rice came with a warm side of black bean sauce, allowing you to mix it to your preference. The rice had a subtle smoky flavor from the wok, and the sauce was rich but balanced.
So good, in fact, that we asked for extra sauce—no additional charge.
If there’s one dish that would bring me back immediately, it’s this fried rice.
Final Thoughts about Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon
It’s rare for me to walk away from a Chinese restaurant genuinely impressed from start to finish, but Yeoksam Chinese Restaurant Daehyangyeon delivered.
From the comforting atmosphere to the well-executed dishes, everything felt reliable and thoughtfully prepared. The old-style fried rice alone is worth a return visit, and the rest of the menu makes it easy to imagine coming back with friends or family.
If you’re searching for a Gangnam Severance Hospital restaurant or a dependable Yeoksam Chinese restaurant that handles both dishes and meals well, Daehyangyeon is an easy recommendation.
A place for tired days, full plates, and quietly satisfying meals.
