Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

If you’re looking for a Wangsimni sushi restaurant that serves more than a typical sushi platter, Sushidoku Kamidon Wangsimni (스시도쿠카미동 왕십리본점) is one of my favorite places to recommend.

This is where I had my very first kamidon, a beautifully arranged Japanese-style rice bowl piled high with fresh seafood.

I’d already been a regular customer at Sushidoku, a sushi restaurant my family loves, so I was curious when the brand opened a new restaurant specializing in rice bowls in the neighboring building.

After that first visit, Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon quickly became one of my regular dining spots in Wangsimni.

What keeps bringing me back is the combination of fresh, carefully prepared ingredients, generous portions, and a dining experience that feels special without being intimidating.

My personal favorite is the Signature Chirashi Kamidon, a colorful bowl filled with sashimi, seafood, and Korean-style raw beef known as yukhoe.

And there’s one final step that makes the meal even better: pouring hot broth over the remaining seasoned rice for a comforting finish.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon Location

Address: 2F, 295 Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul Korean address: 서울 성동구 왕십리로 295 2층 스시도쿠 카미동

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon is approximately a one-minute walk from Exit 9 of Wangsimni Station.

It’s almost directly in front of you when you come out of the exit, making it particularly easy to find even if you’re visiting Wangsimni for the first time.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon is also around a seven-minute walk from Enter 6 Wangsimni, the shopping mall connected to the station.

If you’re shopping at Enter 6 and can’t decide what to eat, I’d recommend stepping outside the mall and walking over here instead of limiting yourself to the food court.

The location is also convenient for Hanyang University students, Seongdong-gu residents, and anyone passing through Wangsimni Station.

Parking Near Sushidoku Kamidon

If you’re driving, Sowol Art Hall’s paid parking lot is one nearby option worth considering.

For most visitors, though, taking the subway is the simplest choice because the restaurant is so close to Wangsimni Station.

Which Floor Is Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon On?

When you enter the building, you’ll find that the dining spaces are divided by floor.

The first floor operates as a private, reservation-only dining space.

For the more casual kamidon dining experience described in this review, head up to the second floor.

Both dine-in customers and people collecting takeaway orders are directed there, and the staff will help you when you arrive.

A Spacious Japanese Restaurant Near Wangsimni Station

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon follows the same ingredient-focused approach that first made me a fan of Sushidoku.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

The restaurant emphasizes using fresh ingredients and preparing its seafood with traditional Japanese techniques, including kombu curing and controlled-temperature aging.

The result, in my experience, is sashimi with a lovely depth of flavor rather than seafood that simply tastes cold and fresh.

The second-floor restaurant is also much larger than you might expect.

It has a spacious main dining area with tables for couples and small groups, counter seating for solo diners, and private rooms for people who prefer a quieter meal.

The table arrangements can accommodate groups of two to four, with some seating suitable for up to six people.

Private rooms offer a more secluded atmosphere and were available for reservations for groups of at least three at the time of my visit.

Even though I arrived just before 2 PM on a weekday, there were still quite a few people dining alone, and the private rooms appeared to be fully occupied.

I was visiting by myself that day, so I was shown to a comfortable seat in the main dining area.

Do You Need a Reservation?

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

Lunchtime can be busy, and I’ve seen people waiting near the entrance and along the stairs during peak periods.

On this visit, arriving a little before 2 PM meant I could walk straight in.

If you’re visiting with a larger group, I’d recommend checking the restaurant’s current reservation options in advance. Solo diners may have more flexibility thanks to the counter seating, but availability naturally depends on how busy the restaurant is.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon Menu: Set Meal or À La Carte?

The menu offers a wide variety of Japanese-style seafood rice bowls, with different combinations of sashimi and premium ingredients.

One thing I appreciate is that the menu describes the seafood included in each bowl in detail.

That makes it much easier to choose according to your preferences, even if you’re unfamiliar with the different types of Japanese rice bowls.

The set meals are popular and come with additional dishes, but here’s my personal ordering tip: I prefer ordering a kamidon à la carte rather than choosing a set meal.

For me, the main attraction is the bowl itself.

I’d rather focus on the generous selection of sashimi, seafood, and seasoned rice, then finish the meal with the restaurant’s hot broth.

Of course, a set meal may suit you better if you want to sample several dishes. But if your priority is enjoying the seafood bowl, the individual kamidon is already a very satisfying meal.

On this visit, I ordered my longtime favorite: the Signature Chirashi Kamidon.

The drinks menu also includes highballs, premium alcoholic beverages, and non-alcoholic options, so the restaurant works for both a casual lunch and a leisurely dinner.

Signature Chirashi Kamidon: Fresh Seafood and Yukhoe in One Bowl

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

The Signature Chirashi Kamidon is the dish that keeps me returning to Sushidoku Kamidon.

Even without ordering a set meal, the presentation feels wonderfully generous.

A colorful selection of seafood and other ingredients is piled high over seasoned sushi rice, creating a bowl that’s almost too pretty to disturb.

But this isn’t a dish that’s all about appearance.

The flavors and textures are what make it memorable.

The bowl I enjoyed included salmon sashimi, seasonal fresh fish, tuna, flying fish roe, tamago, and yukhoe, with sweet shrimp adding a beautiful finishing touch.

Having both sashimi and raw beef in one bowl might sound unusual if you’ve only tried conventional Japanese chirashi don.

But that’s exactly what I enjoy about this dish.

You get the freshness of the seafood, the richness of the yukhoe, the delicate sweetness of the shrimp, and the contrasting textures of the roe and egg.

Each bite can taste a little different depending on what you pick up with your rice.

What Is Kamidon?

If you’re new to kamidon, think of it as a generously topped Japanese-style rice bowl built around carefully prepared seafood and seasoned rice.

At Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon, the bowls are designed to be enjoyed in several ways rather than eaten as one completely mixed dish.

You can taste individual pieces of sashimi, combine seafood with rice, wrap ingredients in seaweed, and finish with hot broth.

I particularly appreciate that the restaurant explains how to enjoy the bowl.

I’ve visited high-end Japanese restaurants where a beautifully prepared dish was served with almost no explanation, leaving first-time diners to figure everything out themselves.

Here, the instructions make the experience feel much more approachable.

You don’t need to be an expert in Japanese cuisine to enjoy it.

How I Eat the Signature Chirashi Kamidon

Everyone has their own preferred way to eat a seafood rice bowl, but this is the order I enjoy most.

1. Start with the Sweet Shrimp and Seaweed

The sweet shrimp placed on top of the bowl is always one of the first things I reach for.

I like to set it aside with a little of the other premium toppings, wrap it in the accompanying seaweed, and dip it lightly into soy sauce.

The seaweed adds a crisp, savory contrast to the delicate shrimp.

It’s a lovely way to begin the meal before moving on to the larger selection of seafood.

2. Try the Sashimi with Seasoned Rice

Next, I start exploring the different sashimi.

The salmon has its familiar rich texture, while the seasonal fish and tuna bring their own distinct flavors.

You can lightly brush soy sauce over the seafood, eat a piece on its own, or place it over a spoonful of rice.

The seasoned sushi rice, known as shari, is important here.

It’s flavorful enough to complement the toppings without overpowering them.

That’s why I don’t think there’s any need to follow one strict eating method.

You can build each bite according to whichever ingredients you’re enjoying most.

3. Make Your Own Seaweed Wraps

My favorite way to eat kamidon is to make little seaweed wraps.

Take a piece of seaweed, add a small amount of rice, then layer on your choice of sashimi, roe, or yukhoe.

Roll everything together and enjoy it in one bite.

With so many different ingredients in the bowl, you can keep changing the combination.

Some bites are rich and buttery, others are fresh and delicate, and the flying fish roe adds a satisfying little pop.

It’s a much more playful way to enjoy the dish than simply eating through the toppings one by one.

The Yukhoe Makes This Chirashi Bowl Special

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

One ingredient that really sets this bowl apart is the yukhoe, Korean-style seasoned raw beef.

I don’t order yukhoe as often as I used to, but I genuinely enjoyed the version served here.

The beef tasted fresh and had a lovely texture, adding a completely different kind of richness alongside the sashimi.

It’s an interesting combination of Korean and Japanese dining styles.

If you love both sushi and yukhoe, the Signature Chirashi Kamidon is an especially appealing choice because you don’t have to choose between them.

If you don’t eat raw beef, check the ingredients of the other bowls before ordering. Sushidoku Kamidon has several seafood-focused options as well.

Ankimo: A Rich and Creamy Extra

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

On this visit, I also won ankimo as a prize in the restaurant’s lucky draw.

Ankimo is Japanese monkfish liver, prized for its rich, smooth texture.

It was a particularly generous extra to receive alongside an already substantial bowl.

I enjoyed some with seaweed and later mixed a little with the rice.

Its deep, creamy flavor worked beautifully with the seasoned shari.

Because this was a lucky-draw prize during my visit, I wouldn’t assume ankimo is included with every order. But if it’s available when you go, it’s worth trying if you enjoy rich seafood delicacies.

Why Sushidoku’s Aged Sashimi Stands Out

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

One of the reasons I became a Sushidoku regular in the first place is the way the brand prepares its fish.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon uses traditional Japanese preparation methods, including kombujime, a technique in which fish is cured with kombu seaweed to develop flavor.

It also uses controlled-temperature aging for selected seafood.

The resulting sashimi has a depth of umami that I find particularly appealing.

Rather than every piece tasting similar, the different fish retain their individual character.

It’s the kind of detail that makes me think about the meal again after I’ve left.

And it explains why I was so excited when Sushidoku opened a restaurant dedicated to these elaborate rice bowls.

Don’t Skip the Hot Broth Finish

If there’s one part of the Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon experience I really don’t want first-time visitors to miss, it’s the final broth.

After you’ve enjoyed most of the seafood, leave a little seasoned rice in your bowl.

Then add the hot broth provided by the restaurant.

The result is a warm, savory rice dish that reminds me of the comforting finish of Korean sungnyung, although the flavor and preparation are different.

It’s such a simple step, but it changes the entire ending of the meal.

The broth brings out the savory flavor of the rice, while its warmth provides a lovely contrast to the chilled seafood you’ve been eating.

I also find it leaves my palate feeling refreshed.

After a generous bowl of sashimi and rich toppings, that warm, nutty, savory finish is exactly what I want.

In fact, it’s one of the details that makes Sushidoku Kamidon feel different from an ordinary sashimi rice bowl restaurant.

Is Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon Good for Solo Dining?

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant

Absolutely—it’s one of the places in Wangsimni where I feel perfectly comfortable dining alone.

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon has counter seating as well as regular tables, and I saw several other solo diners during my weekday visit.

The kamidon format is also particularly convenient for eating alone.

You get a complete, substantial meal in one bowl, with plenty of variety in the toppings.

There’s no need to order several dishes just to try different kinds of seafood.

And if you visit outside the busiest lunch or dinner periods, the experience can be quite relaxed.

For anyone looking for solo dining near Wangsimni Station, this is a restaurant I’d happily recommend.

What Should First-Time Visitors Order at Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon

My first choice would be the Signature Chirashi Kamidon, particularly if you enjoy both sashimi and yukhoe.

It offers a wonderful variety of seafood and textures in one bowl, and the raw beef adds something you don’t usually find in a standard chirashi don.

I’d order it à la carte, enjoy the toppings with seaweed and seasoned rice, and save a little rice for the hot broth at the end.

If you prefer a bowl made entirely with seafood, take a look at the other kamidon options and choose according to the sashimi listed in the menu description.

The set meals are another option if you’d like additional side dishes, but personally, I find the individual bowl more than satisfying.

Is Sushidoku Kamidon Wangsimni Worth Visiting?

Wangsimni Sushi Restaurant Sushidoku Kamidon has been one of my favorite Wangsimni restaurants ever since my first visit.

I originally came because I already trusted Sushidoku’s sushi, but the kamidon experience gave me a new reason to keep returning.

The generous seafood toppings, carefully seasoned rice, fresh yukhoe, and comforting broth finish make the meal feel complete from beginning to end.

I also appreciate the smaller details: clear explanations for first-time diners, comfortable solo seating, private rooms for groups, and thoughtful service.

During my visit, coffee made with Starbucks beans was even offered after the meal—a nice final touch.

If you’re looking for a Wangsimni sushi restaurant near Enter 6 or Hanyang University, and you’d like something more elaborate than a conventional sushi set, Sushidoku Kamidon is well worth adding to your Seoul food itinerary.

My advice? Come hungry, order the Signature Chirashi Kamidon, and make sure you leave a little rice for that final bowl of hot broth.
