Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant Orosi: Affordable Thick-Cut Sushi with Customizable Wasabi

Right in front of Sungshin Womens University is a small, affordable sushi restaurant that feels almost designed for solo diners.
Orosi is an intimate ten-seat sushi bar operated by a dedicated chef who carefully prepares each order in front of the guests. Because the restaurant is so compact, every seat feels personal, and the service is noticeably attentive.
The restaurant uses thick slices of fresh Korean white fish and keeps the wasabi inside each piece surprisingly light. Instead of overpowering the fish, the minimal amount of wasabi allows guests to enjoy the natural flavor of the sushi and add more according to their own preference.
As someone who loves plenty of wasabi, I especially enjoyed adjusting every piece myself.
Combined with the reasonable prices and generous portions, it was easy to understand why Orosi has so many regular customers.

Interior Space of Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi
The entire restaurant consists of only ten counter seats.

Despite visiting after the main lunch period, more than half the seats were already occupied by solo diners. The relaxed counter-style arrangement makes it easy to eat alone without feeling uncomfortable or rushed.

Since many customers are students or women carrying several small bags, each chair has a separate stool positioned behind it for personal belongings. It is a small but genuinely useful detail that makes the limited space much more comfortable.
From the counter, guests can watch the chef quickly preparing each piece of sushi as orders arrive. That open view of the kitchen also adds a sense of trust and keeps the waiting time interesting.
Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi’s affection for cats is another charming detail.

Small cat figures appear throughout the space, while even the dishes used for soy sauce, pickled ginger, and rakkyo feature different cat illustrations. Choosing which design to use becomes a small part of the fun.
Menu at Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi
The menu is simple but offers enough variety for both first-time visitors and regular customers.
The main choices include the signature Orosi Set, assorted sushi platters, rolls, individual sushi pieces, and half-and-half combinations. Fried side dishes are also available, making the restaurant suitable for guests who want to add a light beer or highball to their meal.
What impressed me first was the pricing.
The menu is remarkably affordable for a sushi restaurant near a university, especially considering how thick the slices of fish are. I had originally visited alone, but the prices were reasonable enough that ordering two signature combinations still cost about the same as one meal at many other sushi restaurants.
I wanted to try both of Orosi’s representative menus, so I ordered the O Sushi Set and the Flame-Seared Sushi Set.
The O Sushi Set normally includes a small udon, while the seared set also came with noodles. For an additional 500 KRW, I changed one portion to chilled buckwheat noodles, which was the perfect choice for warmer weather.
Orosi Sushi and Seared Sushi

One enjoyable part of dining at the counter is watching the chef work quickly behind the kitchen partition.
Despite preparing each order individually, the dishes arrived much faster than expected.

The O Sushi Set included ten generously sized pieces with a small udon, while the Flame-Seared Sushi Set included seven pieces featuring meat and seared toppings, accompanied by chilled buckwheat noodles.

Before starting the sushi, I tried the crisp cabbage salad and then compared the egg sushi from each platter.

Japanese sushi chefs often say that tamagoyaki reveals the level of a sushi restaurant, and Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi’s version left a strong first impression.

The egg was exceptionally thick and fluffy without any unpleasant eggy smell. Its gentle sweetness matched my taste perfectly.
The seared egg sushi was finished with a sweet sauce and lightly torched on top, making it significantly richer and sweeter. Because of that dessert-like flavor, I would personally save it until near the end of the meal.
Thick Korean White Fish Sushi
Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi uses domestically sourced white fish, and the quality was clear from the first piece.

The slices were noticeably thick and fresh.
When I lifted one piece to inspect it, I realized that only the thinnest layer of wasabi had been placed between the fish and rice. It was barely visible.
That minimal seasoning allows the freshness and texture of the fish to remain the focus.

The rice portion was also slightly more generous than at many sushi restaurants, so the meal felt properly filling. More importantly, the rice itself tasted good, with a well-balanced vinegar seasoning that supported the fish rather than competing with it.
I added my preferred amount of wasabi between the rice and fish, then dipped the sushi into soy sauce mixed with extra wasabi and ginger.
It was exactly my style.

Another delicious method was placing a small piece of ginger between the fish and rice before dipping it into the sauce.
Some regular customers seemed perfectly satisfied with the original amount of wasabi, while others added more just as I did. Being able to adjust each piece individually was one of the details I liked most about Orosi.
Which Sushi Set Should You Order?
The shrimp sushi was just as satisfying as the white fish.
For first-time visitors who want to appreciate the natural flavor and texture of the seafood, I recommend the classic O Sushi Set.
Guests who prefer more modern flavors or do not particularly enjoy the taste of raw fish may prefer the Flame-Seared Sushi Set. The torching and sauces create a sweeter, richer, and more approachable style.
Ordering one of each also works especially well for two diners who want to compare both.
Udon and Chilled Buckwheat Noodles
The small udon and chilled buckwheat noodles were served in portions that complemented the sushi without making the meal unnecessarily heavy.
A few bites of warm udon worked well between pieces of sushi, while the cold buckwheat noodles provided a refreshing finish.
During warmer weather, upgrading to the chilled noodles for only 500 KRW felt like an excellent decision.
Final Thoughts about Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi
Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi offers exactly what many diners want from an affordable neighborhood sushi restaurant: reasonable prices, generous portions, thick slices of fresh fish, and a comfortable atmosphere for eating alone.
The ability to control the amount of wasabi was an especially satisfying detail for me.

For anyone looking for a Sungshin Women’s University sushi restaurant with excellent value, thoughtful service, and a solo-dining-friendly counter, Sungshin Womens University Sushi Restaurant, Orosi is an easy recommendation.
