The word “Christmas” is one that has always filled me with excitement, both as a child and now.
I especially love carols, and Christmas always makes me feel warm inside. Despite my strong dislike for the cold, winter holds a special place in my heart.
While it’s still a little early to fully embrace the year-end spirit, I had the chance to dive headfirst into the Christmas atmosphere at the Annex near Sungshin Women’s University. It was the same day I returned from the summer warmth of Vietnam, and enjoying a glass of wine while admiring the Christmas tree is a memory I’ll treasure forever.
Overview, Sungshin Women’s University Hotspot, Annex
Located just a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Sungshin Women’s University Station, Annex sits away from the main nightlife area, making it more peaceful and closer to the university.
As always, I parked at the Donam-dong Dongil Highvill parking lot—a little parking tip of mine, with late-night parking at only 2,000 KRW!

This place is hidden underground, so it’s not immediately visible—almost like discovering a secret gem. It has a bit of a speakeasy vibe, the kind of place only those in the know will find. The sign on the wall, along with the small yellow banner reading “ANNEX” and a single flower, adds to the charm of this unique venue.
Once you visit though, you’ll be swept away by the atmosphere from the moment you step through the door. I still remember walking in and feeling completely captivated.
As you descend into near darkness, it’s easy to imagine you’re stepping into the kind of romantic restaurant you’d see in a movie like About Time. But once you enter, you’re met with a beautifully designed space that leaves a lasting impression.
The Interior of Sungshin Women’s University Hotspot, Annex
The first thing that greets you is the warm, welcoming smile of the owner-chef, followed by my favorite Christmas glass ball decorations!
The entire place is decked out in reds, whites, and soft, moody lighting, with candles and small Christmas ornaments at each table, setting the perfect holiday mood. The large, glittering Christmas tree is a sight to behold. I couldn’t resist walking around to explore the space first. Since we arrived right as they opened, I had the chance to take in every detail of this newly opened Annex hotspot.
The space isn’t very large—about 20 seats in total. The main dining area is cleverly divided with curtains for added privacy, making it a cozy spot for intimate gatherings. The attention to detail in the interior design is truly impressive.
I couldn’t help but snap a quick selfie in the dimly lit, but beautifully reflective mirror.
There’s even a completely private area hidden behind a red curtain, perfect for anyone wanting an exclusive experience. Naturally, I claimed the best spot—the one with the perfect view of the Christmas tree!
Even the shadows cast by the water glasses looked beautiful, and the complimentary pretzels were so addictive I couldn’t stop munching on them.
The table was beautifully set with small Christmas trees, igloo-shaped candle holders, and elegant menus. Each menu had a different illustration, mostly of famous composers or pop art on the back, with the food and drinks listed on the front.
From the moment you step inside, Annex at Sungshin Women’s University feels like receiving a wonderful Christmas present.

Sungshin Women’s University Hotspot, Annex, the Taste of the Food:
A glass of sparkling wine felt like the perfect choice in this Christmas-like setting! The space radiated a festive vibe, and I found myself wondering how they would decorate the space for other seasons. Perhaps with gift boxes or music boxes, which would be equally lovely.
As we admired the #ChristmasTreeView, the romantic mood seemed to rise between us, even after two years together. I can imagine this place being perfect for a date.
The Jamon Caprese arrived, and while I expected the usual mozzarella and tomato slices topped with a bit of jamon, I was pleasantly surprised. The dish was covered with delicious jamon, free of any unpleasant smell, making it the perfect companion to our wine. The sauce had a hint of mint and basil, with the sweetness of yuzu, making for a deliciously sweet and tangy combination.
The Gambarelli Aglio e Olio was simple yet addictive, with perfectly cooked pasta and succulent shrimp. The combination of garlic and oil was well-balanced, making it a dish I kept returning to. The plump shrimp added a delightful texture to the pasta.
As we chatted about our plans for Christmas this year, we were presented with a dessert that stole the show—a tiny snowman made of cheese sitting on a honey-covered plate. It was almost too cute to eat, but of course, the combination of cheese and honey was irresistible.

Final Thoughts
Stepping back outside into the cold after our meal, the staff handed us small hand warmers as a final touch, reminding me of just how thoughtful this place is.
In a city where restaurants are becoming more competitive in terms of taste and presentation, Annex stands out for its unique atmosphere and attention to detail. From the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, the entire experience feels warm and welcoming. It’s the kind of place you can’t help but recommend to everyone.
