In my 20s and early 30s, I used to enjoy Itaewon’s vibrant nightlife, but as the years passed, I found myself gravitating toward quieter, more private spaces with good music and a comfortable ambiance where conversations don’t get drowned out. Cepe, a hidden gem of a wine bar in Bogwang-dong, perfectly embodies this refined taste. It’s an ideal spot for relaxing with a glass of wine, away from Itaewon’s energetic buzz.

Overview
When coming from Itaewon, the bar is only a short distance away, about a 10-minute walk on a nice day. Alternatively, you can take the bus for one stop in the direction of the Polytechnic University or come from Bogwang-dong towards Itaewon and walk a little further. (From Itaewon Station Exit 4, take bus 421 and get off after two stops, then turn left and walk down past the Polytechnic University for about three minutes.)
For those driving, the parking situation can be a bit tricky in Bogwang-dong. After spending a bit of time navigating the small alleys, I eventually found the best option:
Recommended Parking:
- Saengsaeng Parking Lot: 2,000 KRW for 30 minutes, then 1,500 KRW every 30 minutes after that. Located just 40 meters from Cepe, it’s a convenient spot and far more reasonably priced than other nearby lots.
Cepe Operating Hours:
- Wednesday – Sunday: 6:00 PM – 2:00 AM
- Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays

Inside Bogwang-dong Restaurant Cepe
Upon entering, I immediately felt the personal touch of the owner-chef, who carefully curated each detail in the cozy yet stylish interior. Cepe has only about 8 seats, mainly bar seating, with one or two small tables along the wall. This setup makes it ideal for solo visitors or pairs who enjoy a casual, conversational dining experience. The music playlist, the interior decor, and the overall ambiance are thoughtfully aligned, creating a welcoming, sophisticated space.
There’s also a self-service water station discreetly positioned on a side table, and the bar layout itself invites patrons to engage with the chef. For those seated at the bar, it’s an opportunity to watch the chef at work, giving a semi-private dining experience in a small, intimate space.
Menu
Cepe’s menu offers a refreshing variety, with around 30 dishes that blend Korean, Western, and Asian influences into a unique fusion experience. Each dish reflects the chef’s experimental approach and personal style. The menu regularly changes, with the chef adding new dishes or replacing existing ones, ensuring a new experience on each visit. Cepe also offers an extensive drink menu, including wines, whiskeys, sake, and a selection of cocktails.
Our choices:
- Beef Cheeseburger: 12,000 KRW
- Basil Linguine: 16,000 KRW
- Guacamole Tofu Chips: 13,500 KRW
- Two glasses of House Red Wine: 9,000 KRW each
Taste of Bogwang-dong Restaurant Cepe
The Beef Cheeseburger had a minimalistic presentation that highlighted its fresh ingredients. It didn’t rely on elaborate garnishes but delivered an impressive balance of flavors. The pickles that accompanied it had a distinctly American flavor that reminded me of classic New York diners.
The Basil Linguine, subtly flavored with basil pesto, had a clean, refreshing taste that paired beautifully with our wine. It was satisfying without being too heavy, with the basil adding a pleasant herbaceous note to the pasta.
Finally, my favorite of the evening was the Guacamole Tofu Chips.
Thin slices of tofu were lightly fried, providing a crispy base for the creamy guacamole and a sprinkle of cilantro. Each bite was a delightful contrast of textures and flavors—a perfect choice for a light yet savory snack.
Conclusion
Cepe is a quiet, intimate bar that delivers not only in terms of ambiance but also with its unique, chef-driven menu. This is the kind of place where you can settle in, enjoy thoughtfully curated music, and engage in good conversation over a glass of wine. Located just outside the busier Itaewon area, Cepe is a fantastic find for anyone looking for a private, relaxed experience in a modern setting.
