When I worked in Seongsu, I often visited Gyukatsujeong Seongsu, one of the best spots for gyukatsu in the area. While Seongsu has many restaurants serving gyukatsu and tonkatsu, Gyukatsujeong Seongsu stands out with its perfectly balanced flavors and melt-in-your-mouth gyukatsu, where the meat’s rich flavor shines through.
The only downside is the long lines during lunch hours. Even though they have a fast turnover, if you don’t arrive early, you might be stuck waiting, especially when hunger kicks in. It’s best to time your visit wisely at this true Seongsu gem, Gyukatsujeong Seongsu.

Menu:
We arrived at 11:20 AM, shortly after opening, to avoid the lunch rush. Luckily, we only saw a few other tables occupied.
You place your order at the kiosk before finding a seat. As a gyukatsu specialist, their main focus is on gyukatsu, but you can customize your meal. If you’re still hungry, there’s an option to add more food. They also offer a variety of drinks and alcohol, including highballs, making it a perfect spot for a light meal or even a solo drink.
My mom and I ordered the standard gyukatsu set and the curry gyukatsu set. While I’m not usually a fan of curry, I was drawn to their option to choose between butter curry or spicy curry, and I went for the spicy one. We were also told that if we left a Naver receipt review, we’d receive a complimentary drink, so we skipped ordering beverages.
- Gyukatsu Set: 14,000 KRW
- Gyukatsu Curry Set: 16,000 KRW
Interior of Seongsu Restaurant, Gyukatsujeong Seongsu
Given the popularity of gyukatsu among the local office workers and its suitability as a solo dining option, the restaurant is primarily designed for individuals or pairs.
Bar seats feature individual mini grills, while the main seating area offers two-person tables with shared grills for efficiency. If you’re dining alone, you’ll have your own grill.
From the table, you can get a glimpse into the busy kitchen, and the origin of the ingredients is clearly displayed. The drink fridge is well-organized, and a small workspace nearby is where the staff tirelessly prepares highballs. I noticed they even have highchairs available, making it a family-friendly spot as well.
Since we were leaving a Naver receipt review, we snapped a photo, posted the review, and received a free cola while waiting for our food.
Before the food arrived, the staff lit the grills on the tables, and we took a moment to look over the “How to Best Enjoy Your Gyukatsu” guide on the table.
Seongsu Restaurant, Gyukatsujeong Seongsu – The Taste:
Because we arrived just before the peak lunch hour, the food came out quickly, which is a huge plus for office workers. Gyukatsujeong Seongsu has a strong reputation for its fast service, delicious food, and consistent quality, making it a must-visit Seongsu restaurant.
I love how the meal is served on a personal tray, with the meat and rice both being exceptionally tasty. It’s an ideal solo dining spot during the week, and it also makes for a great date spot on the weekends.
The gyukatsu, made using traditional Japanese methods, is a glistening sight. The sirloin cut is lightly fried and served rare, allowing you to cook it to your liking on your personal grill.
As the beef began to cook on the grill, I couldn’t resist taking a spoonful of the spicy curry with a scoop of rice and a bit of kimchi. It had been so long since my last visit to Gyukatsujeong Seongsu, and I’d almost forgotten how much I loved the distinct flavor of their spicy curry. Their unique recipe brings a sharp, spicy kick that balances out the richness of the gyukatsu. It’s one of the reasons I always order the curry set – it helps cut through the richness of the fried beef.
Finally, the moment I’d been waiting for: a perfectly cooked bite of sirloin.
The various sauces provide a fun way to experiment with flavors, and each bite feels like a new taste experience. Even when you’re full, you can’t help but keep eating because it’s just that good.
Also, there’s a simple broth served alongside the meal, and the cabbage salad is crisp and refreshing, especially when drizzled with the provided dressing.
Don’t underestimate the grill – it’s surprisingly powerful, and the beef cooks quickly. Just as the grill’s fuel began to run low, a staff member promptly came by to refill it. All you have to do is focus on grilling your meat to perfection.
Once you take a bite of the gyukatsu, you’ll be treated to an explosion of juicy flavors and savory goodness, making Gyukatsujeong Seongsu a top contender in Seongsu.
