Overview
Golden Century is a refined, modern Chinese restaurant in Seongsu, offering a stylish atmosphere that’s ideal for gatherings. Since opening in June, the restaurant has gained popularity, especially due to the talented chefs who trained at Le Cordon Bleu Sydney and joined forces to create this unique spot.
As we approach the holiday season in November and December, it’s especially challenging to secure reservations for such a well-known Chinese restaurant in Seongsu, making Golden Century a prime choice.
When a friend mentioned a night out in Seongsu, I jumped at the chance and made a reservation for dinner around 8 PM to experience this restaurant first-hand. Golden Century is not a large establishment, and its growing popularity means it’s best to book in advance, especially if you want a more private setting—there’s only one private room.
Located just a short 3-minute walk from Seongsu Station (Exit 3), the restaurant is easy to find. If you arrive early, take advantage of the lively nearby area, where you can browse shops and enjoy the main street.

Interior & Ambiance of Seongsu Restaurant, Golden Century
Upon arrival, Golden Century presents an impressive, layered interior design. The ambiance is moody and atmospheric, giving the place a mysterious charm. The layout feels expansive with each area unfolding into the next, creating an intimate yet dynamic vibe.
As you enter, a small main hall with round window frames and seating for 3 to 4 people welcomes guests. Another section is arranged with larger tables that are ideal for group dining, featuring brighter lighting and a more casual setting perfect for friendly gatherings or even dates.
There’s also a private room designed for a larger group. Named the “Golden Room,” this section has a warm, orange-tinted glow, perfect for confidential discussions or more intimate gatherings. However, since only one private room is available, early reservations are essential.
Menu
Golden Century’s table setting is elegant, featuring classic glassware that lends a modern touch to the dining experience. Though it’s a Chinese restaurant, there is a refreshing twist to the style, with dishes often plated with a touch of theatrical flair.
The menu is concise, focusing on a few signature dishes. There’s an interesting variety, from unique items like Chinese sashimi to fusion dishes such as Bang Bang Chicken. As for beverages, the selection of wines and the enticing Kiwi Yantai Highball add to the appeal for those looking to enjoy a drink with their meal.
For our evening, we decided to keep it light with a selection of main dishes and a few stir-fried options:
- Char Siu Fried Rice – KRW 13,000
- Fish-Fragrant Eggplant (Yuxiang Qiezi) – KRW 18,000
Dining Experience at Seongsu Restaurant, Golden Century
The dishes arrived swiftly, a nod to the efficiency one expects at a Chinese restaurant. First up was the Char Siu Fried Rice. Despite the restaurant’s fusion concept, it leans toward a sweeter flavor profile, making it especially popular with younger diners in Korea. While I was hoping for a more traditional smoky flavor with robust wok hei, adding Lao Gan Ma chili sauce enhanced the taste for us.
Golden Century’s fried dishes truly shine. Their Fish-Fragrant Eggplant, for example, boasts a delightfully crisp exterior paired with tender, flavorful eggplant inside. The thin yet non-greasy batter adds a delicious crunch, while the interior remains juicy. It’s a perfect bite with cilantro to balance the flavors. The sauce has a slight hint of spice, similar to mildly spicy Korean-style fried chicken.
After this first experience, I’m already planning my next visit to try their tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and the signature shrimp toast (menbosha).
Final Thoughts
Golden Century is more than just a dining experience; it’s a blend of high-end aesthetics and carefully curated flavors. Opened with the vision of bringing “New Chinese Cuisine” to Seongsu, Golden Century is the creation of talented chefs who’ve brought a touch of sophistication to each detail, from the decor to the dish presentations. With a thoughtful mix of traditional Chinese and fusion dishes, it’s the perfect location for gatherings, dates, or any celebration.
Whether you’re still deciding on a year-end gathering spot in Seongsu, planning a Seongsu date, or craving a quality Chinese meal with a modern twist, Golden Century should be high on your list. Given its popularity, securing a reservation early is recommended.
