I recently received a handmade perfume as a gift from a close friend.

If you enjoy strolling, Exit 3 offers a pleasant 15-minute walk through Seongsu’s café district. If you prefer less walking, Exit 1 is a better option—take Bus 2224 and get off at Seongwon Middle School / Seongsu E-Mart.
I visited by car on a weekend and used a prepaid parking option through a shared parking app, which was very affordable around Seongsu’s office buildings.

There’s a dedicated area for labeling your finished perfume and a photo spot for capturing the entire process—from start to finish.
Beyond the main space, there’s a separate workshop room with seating for four people. This setup is ideal for couples, friends, or even solo participants who want full concentration. While Mood-ing owns over 200 fragrance materials, the one-day class introduces 19 carefully selected scents to prevent olfactory fatigue. If you request something specific, the perfumer can bring additional options tailored to your preferences.

Step 1: Exploring the Base Scents
The class begins by smelling all 19 fragrances and writing down impressions—colors, temperatures, textures, or even imagined scenes. It’s fascinating how the same scent can evoke completely different images for different people.
As someone with a sensitive sense of smell, I did experience slight fatigue and a bitter sensation at one point, which the perfumer explained was normal. Smelling coffee beans between sessions helped reset my nose, and the difference was immediate.
Step 2: Creating a Personal Blend
After narrowing down favorites, we blended scents on paper strips, adjusting combinations until something clicked. When I felt something was missing, the perfumer introduced additional options—this is how I discovered amber and rosewood, which completed my blend perfectly.
I was initially worried because all my selected notes leaned toward base notes, but the perfumer reassured me and adjusted the ratios expertly. Simply describing the mood I wanted was enough for them to balance the formula.
Step 3: Measuring, Mixing, and Aging
Using a scale and droppers, we measured each ingredient. Perfection isn’t required—small variations are expected. Once mixed, we tested the scent on paper and skin, including the dry-down.
At that moment, it honestly felt better than any high-end perfume I’d owned.
After confirming the final blend, alcohol was added. At first, the scent felt diluted and alcohol-forward, but I was advised to let it mature for three days. Once aged, it would return to its original richness.
The final step was filling a 30ml bottle, naming the perfume, and labeling it. I named mine “Rain Drop”, inspired by the day and the memory.
