Located in Seongbuk-dong, this hanok café is a place where thoughtfully made desserts meet an atmosphere designed for focus and calm. Whether you’re looking to get work done or simply want to zone out in silence, Kade offers a rare balance of comfort and stillness.
I visited on a particularly busy day—my schedule packed, my thoughts scattered—and knew instantly that this was the right place to pause, recharge, and enjoy something sweet on my own.

For drivers, brief parking is possible for takeout. If you plan to stay longer, the nearby Jeongneungsa Temple parking lot is a reliable option—I usually park there without any hassle.

At first glance, Seongbuk dong Cafe, Keid may look like a small, single-floor café—but once you step outside and take the stairs up to the second floor, an entirely different world opens up.
Each floor has its own mood, and depending on the day, I find myself choosing a different spot to settle into.
First Floor – Cozy, Casual, and Pet-Friendly
Orders are placed on the first floor, and drinks and desserts are brought directly to your table.
This level features a stepped layout with the counter right at the entrance. The café takes coffee seriously—professional equipment lines the counter—and a dessert showcase displays Kade’s carefully crafted sweets.
Among them all, the chocolate roll cake is my absolute favorite. From its elegant appearance to the single cherry placed delicately on top, it’s the dessert that keeps bringing me back.
The first floor has a small window counter that seats about three people and two main tables that comfortably fit four. It’s a relaxed space, perfect for casual conversations or meeting friends for dessert.
Seongbuk dong Cafe, Keid is also pet-friendly, which makes it especially popular among local dog owners. On my visit, a guest arrived with a pet stroller, which is easy to park right outside.
Second Floor – Quiet Focus and Hanok Serenity
To reach the second floor, you exit the first-floor door and head up an outdoor staircase. The moment you arrive, the shift in atmosphere is immediate—calmer, quieter, and deeply soothing.
On nice days, sitting on the wooden hanok porch with coffee and dessert is pure therapy. Even in winter, the space felt surprisingly comfortable.
Behind glass walls, you can see the dessert and coffee preparation area. Simply watching coffee drip slowly into a cup can be oddly meditative.
The second floor is divided into three zones:
- A right-side wall seating area where most guests work silently on laptops
- A central corridor area suitable for quiet conversations between two to four people
- A deeper inner space with a round table and sofa, ideal for either solo work or calm discussions
Soft rugs, lush green plants, and exposed hanok beams complete the atmosphere. Blankets are provided for guests who feel cold, and each floor has a self-service water station with beautifully crafted ceramic cups—small details that reflect Kade’s thoughtful design.

Coffee is the star at Kade, especially the hand-drip and specialty cold brew selections. It’s rare to see such a wide variety of specialty-grade cold brews in one place.
They offer beans from Colombia, Guatemala, and Ethiopia, with clear flavor notes listed. If you enjoy hand-drip coffee, expect gentle fruit acidity and floral aromas regardless of your choice.
During this visit, without requesting anything specific, I was served a dolce-style cold brew with subtle floral notes—sweet but not overpowering.
Desserts are made in-house on the second floor. Seongbuk dong Cafe, Keid also offers vegan desserts, made without animal products or chemical additives, though I haven’t tried them yet.
Don’t overlook the cookies either. Their ginger-based items, made with locally sourced Korean ginger and packaged beautifully, make excellent gifts.
Dessert Experience at Seongbuk dong Cafe, Keid – The Chocolate Roll Worth the Trip
Once seated, the owner personally brought over my order. The tray, plates, and cutlery matched the café’s aesthetic perfectly.
The chocolate roll looked especially tempting that day—thick chocolate coating, glossy finish, and that single cherry on top.
After taking a moment to admire it, I started with the cherry. Unlike many cakes that use cocktail cherries, this one tasted fresh and real, which immediately set it apart.
The outer chocolate layer has a milk-chocolate richness, while the inside roll leans darker. A generous layer of mascarpone chantilly cream balances everything out, making each bite deeply satisfying without being heavy.
