Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall: Urban Garden, a Beautiful Garden Restaurant for Pasta and Family Dining

Urban Garden

If you’re looking for a restaurant near Seoul City Hall that combines good food with a genuinely beautiful setting, Urban Garden (정원레스토랑 어반가든) has been one of my family’s longtime favorites.

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden first opened in 2005 and has remained a fixture of Seoul’s Jeongdong neighborhood for more than two decades.

My mother loved this restaurant first.

Eventually, it became a favorite for the entire family. And it’s easy to understand why.

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden takes seasonal ingredients seriously, portions are remarkably generous, and the menu changes enough with the seasons to give us a reason to return.

But the food is only half of its appeal.

True to its name, the restaurant feels like a little garden party hidden in central Seoul, with indoor dining rooms, terraces, private spaces, and a beautifully maintained outdoor garden.

Urban Garden

It’s somewhere I’d happily recommend for a date, but even more so for a birthday with parents, Mother’s Day or Father’s Day dinner, a family celebration, or another occasion when you want the setting to feel a little more special.

Address:
12-15 Jeongdong-gil, Jung-gu, Seoul

Despite often being described as a restaurant around Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden is actually closest to Seodaemun Station.

It’s approximately a 6-minute walk from Exit 5 of Seodaemun Station, across from Kangbuk Samsung Hospital and just behind Olive Young Jeongdong.

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden occupies a surprisingly large property for central Seoul.

Even before entering, the garden, flower shop, greenery, and surrounding buildings make you wonder how such a peaceful space ended up tucked into the middle of the city.

That’s part of what has kept me coming back. You’re still in central Seoul, yet the moment you enter the property, the atmosphere changes.

Parking

Parking directly at the restaurant is limited.

If you’re driving, particularly for a large family event, wedding, or first-birthday celebration, I recommend checking nearby parking options in advance.

Some nearby parking facilities may have arrangements with the restaurant, so it’s also worth contacting Urban Garden before your visit.

For ordinary dining, public transportation is considerably easier.

A Longtime Seoul Restaurant Recognized by Blue Ribbon Survey

Urban Garden

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden has also received multiple Blue Ribbon Survey recognitions over the years.

For travelers unfamiliar with it, Blue Ribbon Survey is one of Korea’s best-known restaurant guides.

I’ve eaten here enough times that the recognition doesn’t surprise me.

Urban Garden

What has kept my family returning isn’t one spectacular signature dish. It’s the consistency of the entire experience: fresh ingredients, generous portions, warm service, and a setting that still feels special after multiple visits.

Inside Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden : A Garden Hidden in Central Seoul

Urban Garden

There’s quite a lot to explain about the space because Urban Garden isn’t built like a typical Seoul restaurant.

The property includes a main building, separate annex, terraces, indoor dining areas, gardens, and private rooms.

Each has a slightly different atmosphere.

The Annex for Private Groups

The first building you encounter after turning off the main street is an annex beside the parking area.

Depending on reservations and restaurant operations, this space can accommodate private gatherings, company dinners, and group events.

Because it’s separated slightly from the main building, it provides more privacy than the regular dining room.

The trade-off is that you’ll need to walk a short distance to the main building for facilities such as the restroom.

Advance reservations are generally required for private use, so this isn’t a space I’d expect to use as a walk-in diner.

First Floor Dining Room and Terrace

Urban Garden

The main building is divided into two floors, with the first floor serving as the primary all-day dining area.

Immediately inside is a bright terrace-style space with several four-person tables and larger seating toward the back.

It strikes a nice balance between indoors and outdoors.

Urban Garden

You get the openness and natural light of a terrace while still enjoying the comfort of an interior dining space.

Continue past walls filled with traces of the restaurant’s long history and a wine display, and you’ll reach the main first-floor dining room.

Tables accommodate groups of around four to eight people.

The building retains much of the cozy character of an older house, with exposed brick and warm materials creating an atmosphere that feels comfortable rather than overly formal.

High chairs are available as well, making this a practical family restaurant in Seoul if you’re traveling with young children.

Private Chef’s Room

Urban Garden

On the way upstairs, there’s a small private room called Chef’s Garden Story, designed for approximately 12 guests.

Urban Garden

I immediately thought of intimate family celebrations, engagement gatherings, formal meetings between families, and small private parties.

Urban Garden

Unlike the regular dining area, this room operates as a fully private space and requires advance booking—generally at least two days beforehand.

Meals here are served as a chef’s course rather than from the standard à la carte menu.

For anyone planning a meaningful family occasion in central Seoul, it’s one of the more interesting spaces within Urban Garden.

Second Floor and My Favorite Garden

Urban Garden

Continue up another half-flight and you reach the second floor.

Urban Garden

There’s a small outdoor terrace before entering, followed by another combination of indoor and outdoor spaces.

Urban Garden

The main dining room is arranged primarily for two to four guests, with additional private rooms.

Urban Garden

There’s also a smaller backyard area suitable for groups of around six.

Urban Garden

But my favorite part has always been the front garden.

This is the space that makes Urban Garden live up to its name.

It has the kind of intimate garden atmosphere that immediately makes you imagine an outdoor wedding, first-birthday party, private reception, or brand event.

In fact, the restaurant is used for small weddings and doljanchi—the traditional Korean celebration of a child’s first birthday.

Considering both the food and the setting, I completely understand why.

It’s one of those rare places where the event space doesn’t feel like an afterthought attached to a restaurant. The garden itself is part of the experience.

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden Menu

Urban Garden

A restaurant that’s been operating since 2005 has had plenty of time to develop its menu, and you can feel that history when looking through it.

There are set menus designed for different group sizes and preferences, along with several course menus for celebrations, proposals, and special events.

À la carte options are extensive as well.

The menu focuses largely on Italian-inspired dishes, particularly:

  • Pasta
  • Pizza
  • Risotto
  • Salads
  • Meat dishes
  • Seasonal specialties
  • Side dishes
  • Desserts

What makes the selection more interesting is Urban Garden’s use of seasonal Korean ingredients.

Rather than serving exactly the same generic pasta throughout the year, seasonal produce regularly finds its way into the dishes.

There’s also a broad selection of coffee and herbal tea, plus wine and other alcoholic drinks to pair with your meal.

If the menu feels overwhelming, ask the staff for recommendations. I’ve always found them happy to help, and seasonal recommendations are also displayed at the table.

On this visit with my mother, I went straight for one of my longtime favorites—the avocado salad.

For pasta, we chose a seasonal spring dish featuring minari and beef brisket.

What Does the Food at Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden Taste Like?

Urban Garden

We started with coffee and warm bread.

The bread arrived soft, warm, and pleasantly chewy, giving us something to snack on while waiting.

Then the salad and pasta arrived.

And this is where photographs don’t really do Urban Garden justice.

The portions are huge.

Among the restaurants I’ve visited around Seoul City Hall—and honestly, plenty of restaurants elsewhere in Seoul—Urban Garden remains one of the places where I consistently feel I’m getting an unusually generous amount of fresh ingredients for the price.

Avocado Salad: One of My Regular Orders

Urban Garden

As someone who loves avocado, this salad has become one of the dishes I order again and again.

Many restaurants give you a few decorative slices of avocado.

Urban Garden does not believe in that philosophy.

The serving feels like at least one whole avocado, accompanied by two soft-boiled eggs, mozzarella, bell peppers, and a generous amount of fresh greens and vegetables.

You can keep taking huge forkfuls and somehow the plate still looks full.

More importantly, quantity isn’t compensating for poor quality.

The vegetables taste fresh and crisp, while the avocado is properly ripened and creamy.

I’ve genuinely had visits where I felt almost full from the salad alone.

Seasonal Minari Pasta with Beef Brisket

Urban Garden

If you’re searching specifically for pasta near Seoul City Hall, this is where Urban Garden becomes particularly interesting.

I’ve tried different pasta dishes here over the years and rarely been disappointed.

This time, because it was spring, my mother wanted something that captured the season.

Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden

We chose a pasta featuring minari (미나리), also known as Korean water parsley, paired with thinly sliced beef brisket.

Minari has a distinctive fresh, green aroma that Koreans strongly associate with spring.

Combined with pasta, it gives a familiar Italian-style dish a very Korean seasonal character.

The noodles were thin, almost angel-hair-like, but still pleasantly springy rather than overcooked.

The minari brought a fragrant herbal freshness, while the beef brisket was cooked just enough to remain tender.

Together, they worked beautifully.

It’s exactly the sort of dish that explains what I mean when I say Urban Garden takes seasonal ingredients seriously.

A Great Restaurant for Family Dining in Seoul

There’s another reason I keep thinking of Urban Garden whenever my family needs somewhere to eat together.

The portions make sharing easy.

My mother and I often tell ourselves we’ll order dessert afterward, but the main dishes are so substantial that dessert somehow never happens.

This visit was no exception.

Two dishes can turn into a surprisingly serious meal.

For families who like ordering several plates and sharing everything at the table, that generosity works particularly well.

Special Events, Family Celebrations and Small Weddings

Restaurant Near Seoul City Hall, Urban Garden isn’t limited to ordinary restaurant visits.

The different rooms and gardens make it particularly well suited to:

Family birthdays, Parents’ Day meals, intimate weddings, first-birthday celebrations, proposals, company dinners, private parties, and brand events.

In Korea, Parents’ Day is celebrated on May 8, and restaurants become especially busy with families taking their parents out for a special meal.

Urban Garden is exactly the sort of restaurant I’d choose for that occasion.

It feels special without becoming excessively formal, parents can comfortably enjoy the menu, and younger family members won’t feel trapped in an old-fashioned fine-dining restaurant.

That balance isn’t always easy to find.

Is Urban Garden Worth Visiting?

After more than two decades in the same neighborhood, Urban Garden could easily rely on its longtime reputation.

What I appreciate is that it doesn’t feel like it does.

There are seasonal menus, events, takeaway options, special packages, and different ways to use the space, while the restaurant continues to attract both younger diners and families from older generations.

Still, I personally wouldn’t choose takeaway first.

The food is certainly good enough to eat elsewhere, but Urban Garden’s atmosphere is too important to miss.

Come here in person.

Walk through the garden. Sit down with your parents, partner, children, or someone you care about. Order more food than you think you’ll finish. Stay long enough to enjoy the surroundings.

That’s the experience that has made this place one of my family’s longtime favorites.

If you’re looking for a restaurant near Seoul City Hall for pasta, a date, or an especially memorable family meal, Urban Garden in Jeongdong remains one of the places I’d happily recommend—and one I’ve continued returning to since my mother first introduced our family to it.
