Pho Lim: Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Worth the Wait

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant

There are plenty of great restaurants inside Haengdang Market these days. In fact, the area has become so popular that finding an empty seat on weekend evenings can be surprisingly difficult. Yet for the longest time, there was one thing I felt the neighborhood was missing—a proper Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant.

Then one day, construction began on a corner building inside the market. A few months later, a rooftop sign appeared that was impossible to miss from every direction. It immediately looked like a Vietnamese restaurant, and before long, it became one of the busiest places in the market.

That place is Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim.

I had already tried visiting twice before, only to give up because every table was full. Eventually, I decided to avoid dinner hours and visit during the afternoon instead.

The result?

One lunch visit was all it took to become one of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants in Seoul.

From the authentic bun cha to the perfectly seasoned stir-fried water spinach, everything felt surprisingly close to the flavors I remember from Vietnam itself.

Interior Space of Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim

This was actually my first time seeing available seating inside Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim.

I visited around 2 PM on a weekday, an awkward time between lunch and dinner, which turned out to be the perfect strategy. Even then, the restaurant quickly filled again shortly after I sat down.

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim also operates a busy delivery service, and delivery notifications seemed to arrive constantly throughout my meal.

The interior immediately transports you somewhere else.

Vietnamese-style plants, rustic furniture, warm lighting, and wooden details create an atmosphere that feels much closer to a local restaurant in Vietnam than a typical Korean franchise.

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim’s space itself is not particularly large, but it is cleverly divided into two levels.

Most tables accommodate two or four guests, while the elevated window-side section features larger four-person tables overlooking the market.

Solo diners and larger groups are usually guided toward the lower dining area, while smaller parties often receive window seating when available.

I was lucky enough to secure one of the elevated window tables, making my solo lunch surprisingly relaxing.

The reclaimed wood tabletops and locally inspired furniture add even more character to the space, while sauces, utensils, and condiments are already prepared at each table for convenience.

Menu of Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim

Once seated, the staff brings a traditional booklet-style menu directly to your table.

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim offers four different styles of pho alongside various rice dishes and an impressive selection of Vietnamese specialties.

One of the most surprising things was the value.

A bowl of pho starts at only KRW 8,000, which feels extremely reasonable by Seoul standards, especially considering the generous portions.

However, Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim is more than just a Vietnamese restaurant.

It has also become a popular drinking spot in Wangsimni, offering numerous Vietnamese dishes designed for sharing alongside beer and other alcoholic beverages.

The drink menu is surprisingly extensive as well, with separate sections dedicated to different types of alcohol.

Since I was craving authentic Vietnamese food, I decided to order some of my favorite dishes.

Before anything else, I started with one of their seasonal fresh coconuts—a perfect choice for a hot afternoon.

One of the biggest highlights was the fresh coconut.

Served directly inside a large young coconut that had been opened moments earlier, it felt exactly like something you would order at a roadside café in Southeast Asia.

Cold, naturally sweet, and incredibly refreshing.

The perfect way to start the meal.

Then came the bun cha.

Honestly, this was one of the most impressive presentations of bun cha I have seen in Seoul.

Many Vietnamese restaurants serve bun cha as a simple everyday meal, but Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim presents it almost like a main course worthy of a special occasion.

The portion size and presentation felt exceptional.

The dipping sauce deserves special mention. It captures authentic Vietnamese flavors while remaining approachable for Korean diners, striking a balance that is surprisingly difficult to achieve.

The grilled pork arrived over a small flame to keep it warm throughout the meal, allowing every bite to stay flavorful until the very end.

After experimenting with different combinations, my favorite became a simple mix of herbs, grilled pork, and rice noodles dipped into the sauce.

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim also served a crispy fried seafood roll that initially looked similar to cha gio.

Filled with shrimp and seafood, it was crunchy outside, juicy inside, and paired perfectly with sweet chili sauce.

The stir-fried water spinach was another standout dish.

I spent several minutes debating whether I should order rice to accompany it.

The portion was generous, the seasoning tasted remarkably close to versions I’ve enjoyed in Vietnam, and it paired beautifully with both the grilled pork and noodles. Without rice, it leaned slightly salty—but in the best possible way.

Then came an unexpected surprise.

The owner sent over complimentary grilled bánh mì with condensed milk.

At first, I thought they had mistakenly brought someone else’s order.

When I mentioned it, one of the Vietnamese staff members simply smiled and said,

“It’s service. Just enjoy it.”

And I did.

The combination of grilled baguette and condensed milk was something I had never tried before, yet it worked incredibly well.

The bread itself was delicious enough that I began experimenting—pairing it with the water spinach, adding bun cha ingredients, and even creating my own Vietnamese-style sandwich at the table.

Considering it normally costs only KRW 3,000, it immediately became something I plan to order next time.

Final Thoughts about Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim

Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant

After two failed attempts and months of curiosity, I finally managed to visit Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim.

And now I completely understand why people are willing to wait for a table.

The atmosphere feels authentic without trying too hard. The service is warm and friendly. The portions are generous. The prices remain reasonable.

Most importantly, the food is genuinely excellent.

As someone who has visited countless Vietnamese restaurants throughout Seoul, Pho Lim easily ranks among my personal favorites.

The bun cha alone is worth returning for, while dishes like the stir-fried water spinach and grilled bánh mì make the experience even more memorable.

If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese food in Seoul, a great restaurant near Wangsimni Station, or simply one of the most exciting spots inside Haengdang Market, Haengdang Market Vietnamese Restaurant Pho Lim is absolutely worth a visit.

Just try not to come during peak dinner hours unless you’re prepared to wait.
