Konkuk University Station Restaurant, Dodo Gopchang: The Oldest Gopchang Spot in Konkuk You Must Visit Where You Can Enjoy Both Beef and Pork Intestines on One Plate!

Konkuk University Station Restaurant, Dodo Gopchang is a must-visit spot if you’re looking to enjoy both beef and pork intestines in one dish. Known as the oldest gopchang (intestine) restaurant in Kondae, Dodo Gopchang offers a unique “jjamjjamyeon-style” experience, combining the best of both worlds on one platter.

For gopchang lovers, choosing between delicious pork intestines and premium Korean beef intestines can be a tough decision. While some places may serve both, it’s rare to find a restaurant where both options are equally delicious and served together.

Thankfully, Dodo Gopchang solves this dilemma by serving perfectly cooked beef and pork intestines in one dish, making it a standout Kondae restaurant.

Even on a Monday evening, the place was packed. Interior Space of Konkuk University Station Restaurant, Dodo Gopchang

The first impression of Dodo Gopchang is that it’s unexpectedly clean and tidy for an intestine restaurant.

The floors aren’t slippery, and there’s a lovely outdoor terrace with a mural that adds to the spacious and comfortable feeling of the place. This terrace is a popular spot and requires a reservation to snag a seat. The main dining area is also full, mostly with two-person tables that can be combined for larger groups.

Interestingly, Dodo Gopchang has chairs with backrests, which is rare for a gopchang restaurant. It’s comfortable but be mindful of your clothing choice – maybe avoid wearing knits, as you might leave with a lingering “gopchang” scent!

Once seated, you’ll notice a small note on the wall with the owner’s message, likely written when the restaurant first opened. The message speaks of the owner’s dedication to creating delicious gopchang dishes without any unpleasant odors, using recipes refined over years of research. This background made me even more eager to decide what to order.

Menu

Dodo Gopchang offers a variety of gopchang, makchang (beef abomasum), and daechang (large beef intestines) in different flavors and seasonings. The menu is extensive, but the friendly staff recommended Set 1, which includes beef gopchang, seasoned makchang, and vegetable pork gopchang, covering all my favorites.

The Taste of the Food

The basic side dishes include perfectly sliced onion pickles and crunchy bean sprouts, which are delicious on their own and only heighten anticipation for the main course.

Finally, the star of the evening arrived: a platter featuring beef gopchang, seasoned makchang, and vegetable pork gopchang.

Seeing all three varieties together on one plate was a sight to behold, and the aroma alone was enough to make anyone’s mouth water.

The dishes arrived mostly cooked, needing just a bit more time on the grill for the beef gopchang to reach perfection.

I started with the seasoned makchang, which was delicious both on its own and when dipped in bean powder. Despite typically avoiding makchang due to its strong smell, Dodo Gopchang’s version was unexpectedly odor-free and flavorful.

The vegetable pork gopchang was fresh and perfectly seasoned, living up to its reputation. Dodo Gopchang’s commitment to using high-quality ingredients and removing all bad fats from the meat truly shines through in their dishes, delivering rich, savory flavors without any unpleasant aftertaste.

Finally, the beef gopchang was ready to eat. One bite was all it took to remember why I love gopchang so much—the rich, fatty goodness was perfectly complemented by the special sauce provided, creating a truly satisfying dining experience.
