A Classic Chinese Restaurant Loved by Locals

Located in Jongno, Yaraehyang doesn’t rely on flashy interiors or modern branding.
Instead, it focuses on something much more important—
doing the basics right.
This is the kind of place that proves a simple idea:
when a restaurant sticks to the fundamentals, the food will always speak for itself.
And here, that means one thing in particular— handmade jajangmyeon.

Jongno 3ga Chinese Restaurant Yaraehyang is conveniently located in central Seoul.
- 3 Gimsangok-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul
- About 6 minutes from Jongno 5-ga Station (Exit 1)

Why It’s Perfect for Family Dining
I first visited this place after a hospital appointment nearby, but this time, I came back with my parents for a weekend family meal.
And honestly, it couldn’t have been a better choice. Unlike trendy spots that can feel uncomfortable for older generations, Jongno 3ga Chinese Restaurant Yaraehyang has a welcoming, familiar atmosphere that works for everyone.
Inside of Jongno 3ga Chinese Restaurant Yaraehyang

The interior was much larger than expected.
The restaurant has two floors:
- The first floor features a large main hall and several private rooms

- The second floor is entirely made up of private dining rooms
Even when I visited on a weekend, almost every table was full.
Seeing such a wide range of customers—older groups, families, and younger diners—made it clear that this place is trusted by all age groups.
If you’re planning a group meal or family gathering, reserving a room upstairs is definitely a good idea.

It starts with full-course meals, ranging from reasonably priced options to more premium selections.
Then it moves into a wide variety of dishes:

The Food Experience at Jongno 3ga Chinese Restaurant Yaraehyang

What stood out to me most was how generous everything was.

Even before the main dishes arrived, the table was set with simple but familiar sides—pickled radish, onions, and even napa cabbage kimchi, which is not something you see everywhere.
It felt very “Korean-style Chinese restaurant,” in the best way possible.
Handmade Jajangmyeon (Must-Try)
The highlight of Jongno 3ga Chinese Restaurant Yaraehyan is definitely the jajangmyeon.
These noodles are handmade, and you can tell immediately.
They’re: chewy, bouncy, and freshly made.
But what really surprised me was the sauce.
Unlike many places where basic jajangmyeon feels too simple,
this one had a deep, balanced flavor without being overly salty or greasy.
At just around 7,000 KRW, it honestly felt like one of the best value dishes I’ve had in Seoul.
If you’ve been looking for that nostalgic, old-school jajangmyeon taste, this is exactly it.
Japtangbap (Seafood Rice)

Another standout dish was the japtangbap.

Loaded with:
- seafood
- mushrooms
- even sea cucumber
It was generous to the point where you almost needed extra rice to finish all the toppings.
The flavor had a slightly spicy kick, and the aroma alone made it hard to wait before digging in.
Considering that many places charge much more for similar dishes, this felt like incredible value.
Jjamppong (A Bit Different)

The jjamppong was the only dish that felt slightly underwhelming.
While it had plenty of ingredients and the noodles were just as good,
the broth leaned more toward a simple chili-based flavor rather than a deep seafood broth.
It’s not bad—but compared to the other dishes, it didn’t stand out as much.
Stir-Fried Pork & Peppers (Gochujapchae)

By the time the gochujapchae arrived, we were already quite full.
But once you take a bite, that doesn’t really matter.
Served with warm flower buns, the combination of tender pork and crunchy peppers works perfectly.
It’s the kind of dish you keep eating even when you’re full.
A Generous Final Touch

Just when we thought the meal was over,
they brought out a plate of freshly fried dumplings—on the house.
Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and surprisingly light.
Dipped in jajang sauce, it easily becomes the perfect snack—or even a great pairing with beer.
