Jongno 3 ga restaurant Hideaway Jongno offers authentic Japanese-style yakiniku with personal charcoal grills, making it one of the best solo dining spots in Seoul for high-quality beef and a true local atmosphere.
Jongno 3 ga Restaurant Hideaway Jongno – A Rare Solo Yakiniku Experience in Seoul
Among all types of solo dining, grilling meat alone is often considered the highest level. While eating alone at most restaurants has become common, a Korean barbecue or yakiniku place still feels like a challenge. That is exactly why Jongno 3 ga restaurant Hideaway Jongno felt so memorable—it pushed my solo dining experience to an entirely new level.
What made it possible was simple but crucial: individual charcoal grills at each seat and portion sizes designed perfectly for one person. Add to that a space that feels like stepping into a quiet backstreet in Japan, and the experience becomes more than just a meal. From the exterior to the interior and even the background music, everything at Hideaway Jongno carries a nostalgic Japanese retro mood. It felt like a short escape from everyday life, right in the middle of Jongno.

Location & Access
Hideaway Jongno is located at:
71 Donhwamun-ro 11 ga-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul

The restaurant sits in a calm alley just behind the lively Jongno street food area. From Jongno 3 ga Station Exit 6, it’s about a 6 minute walk. If you head toward the well-known grilled meat alley and walk straight for about five minutes, you’ll find it quietly glowing in the background.
Parking in Jongno is never easy, but if you arrive before peak dinner hours, nearby paid parking lots or public parking options are surprisingly available. I used Gogang Private Parking Lot, which was reasonably priced and only a one-minute walk away.
One important note: there is no Korean signage outside. The name appears only in English as “HIDE AWAY.” If you’re not expecting it, you might walk past without realizing it’s a restaurant. The menu board outside is often the only clue that you’ve arrived at the right place.

Interior Atmosphere of Jongno 3 ga Restaurant, Hideaway Jongno

I visited right at opening time, around 4 PM on a weekday, to ease into my first solo yakiniku experience. The timing couldn’t have been better—I had the entire space to myself.

The interior instantly deepens the Japanese atmosphere hinted at outside. The lighting, color palette, and background music all feel authentically Japanese, almost like a small local grill tucked away in Osaka or Tokyo. For anyone missing Japan or craving that travel-like feeling without leaving Seoul, this place delivers.

Each table is equipped with a personal charcoal grill, making it comfortable for solo diners. There are bar-style seats along the main hall, window-side solo seats ideal for a quiet drink after work, and larger tables that can seat up to six people comfortably. Whether you come alone, as a couple, or in a small group, the layout feels intentional and balanced.
I chose a window-side bar seat, watching people pass by in the Jongno alley while preparing to grill my own meat—quiet, unhurried, and surprisingly relaxing.
Menu Overview at Jongno 3 ga Restaurant, Hideaway Jongno
Yakiniku refers to the Japanese-style grilled meat culture, where diners cook meat themselves at the table. At Jongno 3 ga restaurant Hideaway Jongno, this concept is executed with high-quality cuts and thoughtful portions.
The menu includes premium Korean beef short plate, wagyu tail, rib fingers, chuck flap tail, sirloin, and even specialty cuts like beef tongue. For those who prefer poultry, chicken neck meat is also available. If you’re dining with two or three people, the value-focused set menus are highly recommended—one set plus a side dish makes for a complete and satisfying meal.
Japanese beers, especially Ebisu draft beer, and a wide selection of highballs and Japanese spirits are available. On this visit, I chose cola instead, but the drink menu alone makes this place appealing for a relaxed evening.
Prices are surprisingly reasonable considering the quality, and even the soft drinks are refreshingly affordable. While most meat dishes are typically ordered in two servings, solo diners visiting during off-peak hours may be offered one-serving portions—a rare and thoughtful touch for anyone eating alone.
Food Experience at Jongno 3 ga Restaurant, Hideaway Jongno

Once seated, warm charcoal was placed into my grill, and simple condiments—salt, sauces, and fresh wasabi—were served.

The plating immediately stood out: clean, elegant, and carefully labeled, making even a single portion feel special.

I ordered 100g of 1+ grade Korean beef short plate, which turned out to be the perfect amount. Thickly sliced with beautiful marbling, it felt indulgent without being overwhelming. I grilled two pieces at a time, matching my own pace, which made the experience calm and controlled.

The beef cooked quickly, releasing rich juices as it caramelized over the charcoal. Occasionally, the fat flared up, but a quick move to the side of the grill kept everything perfectly cooked. My first bite was simply seasoned with salt and wasabi—clean, juicy, and deeply satisfying.

The house sauce deserves special mention as well. Balanced and flavorful, it complemented the beef without overpowering it.

To complete the meal, I ordered the mentaiko rice bowl.

The portion was ideal for one person and generously topped with cod roe, mayonnaise, a fried egg, and finely chopped scallions. Mixed together, it delivered comforting, familiar flavors that paired beautifully with the grilled meat.
