Located in the lively Jonggak district, Jonggak Restaurant, The Dimsum offers a modern Hong Kong street-restaurant atmosphere along with surprisingly good prices. From juicy xiao long bao to crispy sweet-and-sour pork (guobaorou), every dish delivers authentic flavor without the expensive price tag.
After visiting multiple times, I can confidently say that I’ve never had a disappointing dish here. It’s one of those rare places where you can stop by for solo dining, casual drinks, or a full meal with friends.

Even if you’re already full, it’s the kind of place where you somehow still end up ordering dumplings.

Jonggak Restaurant, The Dimsum is located in the basement level, and once you walk down the stairs you immediately feel like you’ve stepped into a stylish Hong Kong eatery.
The interior is compact but cleverly designed.
The space includes:

• seating for groups of up to six
One entire wall is covered with mirrors, which helps the room feel more spacious. Neon signs and traditional Hong Kong lanterns add a trendy, urban vibe.
Despite the smaller size, the restaurant feels lively rather than crowded.
You’ll see many different types of diners here:

• couples
• small groups of friends
Seats are generally available on a first-come, first-served basis, so even if you arrive alone, you may end up sitting comfortably at a larger table.
Ordering System at Jonggak Restaurant, The Dimsum
Because the music inside is fairly lively and the layout includes several corner seating areas, it’s not always easy to call staff directly.
Instead, each table has a self-order kiosk, where you can browse the menu, place your order, and pay immediately.

For this visit, I decided to focus on some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes:

The Food of Jonggak Restaurant, The Dimsum – Authentic Dim Sum with Great Value
Since it was a cold winter day, the staff kindly brought warm water to the table.
However, I chose a bottled lemon black tea drink instead. Normally I might order beer with dim sum, but I still had work to do afterward — so I requested a beer glass just for the atmosphere.
Cucumber Side Dish
The first dish served was cucumber salad, which plays a role similar to kimchi in Korean cuisine or pickles in Western meals.
It’s refreshing and slightly sweet, making it the perfect appetizer to stimulate the appetite.
It’s also great between bites of heavier Chinese dishes, helping reset the palate.
Xiao Long Bao – Soup Dumplings Full of Flavor
Soon after, the steamer basket arrived filled with my favorite dish: xiao long bao.
These soup dumplings release a burst of rich broth when gently pierced with chopsticks.
After years of eating xiao long bao, I’ve learned to be careful — my very first one left me with a burned tongue from the hot soup inside.
But the moment you break the dumpling and sip the broth, you immediately understand why people love this dish so much.
Adding a little ginger and soy sauce before taking a bite brings out even more flavor.
For a moment, it honestly feels like being transported to a small dumpling shop in Hong Kong.
Har Gow – My Personal Favorite
While the xiao long bao is excellent, my personal favorite at The Dimsum is actually the har gow.
For dumpling lovers, this dish is almost guaranteed to become a favorite.
The dumpling wrapper is thin yet wonderfully chewy, and inside you’ll find plump, juicy shrimp packed with flavor.
The texture is perfect — tender, slightly elastic, and incredibly satisfying.
Four pieces disappear surprisingly fast.
Sweet and Sour Pork (Guobaorou)
Then came the highlight of the meal: guobaorou, a crispy sweet-and-sour pork dish.
The texture is outstanding.
• extremely crispy on the outside
• juicy and tender inside
The sauce is balanced perfectly — sweet and slightly tangy without being overwhelming.
Thanks to the light batter and the chewy texture created by glutinous starch, each bite feels addictive.
This is the type of dish that instantly makes you want to order a cold beer.
