Introduction of Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang
There are certain types of Korean BBQ that you try once and immediately understand why people keep coming back. One of those is pork grilled over corn-based fuel. It’s a method often seen in countryside pensions in Korea, where the meat cooks faster, retains its juices beautifully, and develops a deeper, nuttier flavor compared to regular charcoal grilling.
For a long time, I had been wishing there was a place in Seoul that used this exact method. Surprisingly, I finally found it at Gogong Jayang, a JJayangdong BBQ Restaurant that checked every box I had been looking for.
Visited recently with my father, this place turned out to be more than just a good BBQ spot. From the quality of the pork to the professional grilling service and even the side dishes, everything felt carefully thought out. It’s the kind of place that instantly turns into a regular go-to after just one visit.

Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang is located at 620-1 Ttukseom-ro in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. While it’s not the most convenient location if you’re relying on public transportation, it’s about a 14-minute walk from Guui Station Exit 4.
That said, once you make the effort to get there, it’s absolutely worth it. The restaurant is already well-known among locals, and reservations during dinner hours can be difficult to secure.

If you’re driving, a practical option is the nearby Jayang Reservoir public parking lot, which is about a five-minute walk away and relatively affordable compared to other areas in Seoul.

Even before stepping inside, you can tell this is a popular spot. Reservations fill up quickly, especially during peak dinner hours, so booking in advance is highly recommended. Walk-ins are possible, but using a waiting app is almost essential if you don’t want to wait long.
Inside, the space feels surprisingly clean and comfortable for a Korean BBQ restaurant. One entire wall is made of glass, which creates an open and airy atmosphere. What stands out the most is the absence of that typical heavy BBQ smell. Even the floors are clean and not slippery, which is rare for places serving grilled meat.

The seating is arranged with a mix of four-person and six-person tables, making it suitable for everything from casual dinners to group gatherings. There’s also thoughtful attention to detail, such as storage cabinets at the entrance where you can keep your clothes free from smoke, and even high chairs available for families with children.
Because we visited early in the evening, we were able to choose a comfortable window-side table, which made the dining experience even more relaxed.
Menu at Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang
At its core, Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang focuses on premium-quality meat. The restaurant carefully selects high-grade cuts and enhances them through a combination of wet and dry aging techniques, resulting in more tender texture and deeper flavor.
Both pork and beef are available, but the highlight is undoubtedly their aged pork. The menu includes a variety of cuts such as pork neck, pork belly, and special cuts like gabri-sal, along with beef options for those who want variety.
What makes Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang stand out is not just the meat itself, but the entire experience built around it. The use of eco-friendly corn-based fuel helps eliminate unwanted odors while preserving the natural juiciness of the meat. On top of that, trained grill specialists handle the cooking, ensuring that every piece is cooked to perfection.
There’s also a well-curated selection of drinks, including draft beer, highballs, wine, and even traditional Korean alcohol. Corkage is available at a reasonable price, which adds flexibility for those who want to bring their own bottle.
Food of Jayangdong BBQ Restaurant Gogong Jayang

The experience begins with the grill setup, where the staff generously adds corn-based fuel and prepares the grill according to the type of meat ordered. Watching this process already builds anticipation.

The side dishes are far from ordinary. Instead of generic accompaniments, each one feels thoughtfully developed. There’s a strong emphasis on green onion-based dishes, including marinated green onions that pair perfectly with pork. Alongside that, you get fresh kimchi variations, bean sprouts, and multiple dipping sauces, each offering a different flavor profile.

Once the meat arrives, the grilling process begins immediately. Since everything is handled by professionals, all you have to do is wait. The pork cooks quickly over the corn fuel, developing a rich aroma while maintaining a juicy interior.

The salt-grilled pork, made from high-quality Jeju-style black pork, is especially memorable. The meat has a beautiful balance of fat and lean, resulting in a deep, savory flavor with a slightly nutty finish. Combined with the sweetness of grilled green onions, every bite feels perfectly balanced.
One of the most impressive details is how consistently the meat is cooked. Each piece is cut, flipped, and served at just the right moment. The staff even builds a small stack of perfectly grilled pieces on the side, so you can enjoy them at your own pace without worrying about overcooking.

Among the side dishes, two stood out the most. The spicy radish salad had a refreshing tang with a slightly icy texture that made it incredibly addictive. The other was a unique citrus-based sauce made with yuzu peel and chili, similar to Japanese yuzu kosho. It added a bright, slightly spicy kick that elevated the flavor of the pork even further.

To finish the meal, we ordered kimchi stew with rice. For such an affordable price, the quality was surprisingly high. The broth was rich and deeply flavored, with well-fermented kimchi that added just the right amount of acidity and spice. It was the perfect way to end a satisfying BBQ meal.
