Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm – A Handmade Dessert Cafe Loved by Locals and Travelers

Because I’ve spent many years around exhibitions and artists, Insadong has always been a place I visit often. It’s also the very first area I take foreign friends to when they visit Seoul. Traditional streets, galleries, and cultural spaces naturally lead to one important question: where to enjoy a truly good dessert.

Among all the cafes in Insadong, Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm is my personal favorite. Every morning, the cakes are baked in-house, and you can taste the difference from the very first bite. My first visit was actually thanks to foreign friends who showed me this cafe on Instagram and insisted we go together. After that visit, I quickly became a regular. This is a genuine dessert spot where both flavor and presentation are taken seriously.
Overview of Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm
Address:
2F, 37 Insadong-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul
Access: About a 5-minute walk from Anguk Station Exit 6
Located right along Insadong’s main street, directly across from the popular honey candy (kkultarae) shop that many foreigners love, the location is incredibly convenient. While the exterior blends into the busy street, the inside reveals a completely different atmosphere. With a comfortable view and calm interiors, it’s a place where you naturally want to sit longer and enjoy your time.
Opening Hours:
Daily 10:30 AM – 10:30 PM
The cafe operates across four levels, from the second floor up to the rooftop. One entire floor is dedicated solely to the baking room, which shows just how serious Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm is about desserts.
Interior Space of Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm – Vintage, Warm, and Full of Light

Climbing the stairs brings you to the first main hall, where vintage yet refined wooden interiors meet soft sunlight pouring in through large windows. I visited right at opening time because I had plans to meet a friend preparing for an exhibition nearby. Thanks to that timing, I experienced the space at its most peaceful—something that’s rare here, as it’s usually full.

The lighting is elegant but not overwhelming, and European-style decorative pieces are placed thoughtfully throughout the space. Most tables are set for two or four people, and the window seats—usually the hardest to get—were finally available. Even the smaller tables are thoughtfully arranged, with extra stools for bags, which makes the space feel considerate and comfortable.
A self-service water station sits in one corner, featuring glass bottles filled with lemon-infused water. Small details like this reflect how much care the owner puts into the overall experience.
Moving up to the next floor, the atmosphere becomes brighter and more open. Larger windows, lighter furniture, soft fabrics, and rattan lighting all work together to create a relaxed, natural mood. A full-length mirror and bar-style chairs make this floor especially popular for photos, and visiting early meant I could enjoy a quiet moment and take in the space without hesitation.
One more level up is a staff-only baking room, where the cakes are made fresh. Beyond that is the rooftop entrance, which was closed during winter, but on pleasant days it offers a full view of Insadong Street—one of the reasons this cafe is so popular.
Menu at Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm – Freshly Baked Cakes Made with Quality Ingredients

Orders are placed via a kiosk, where you select your items and receive a vibrating pager. The menu includes coffee, lattes, teas, ades, and a wide selection of desserts. Illustrations make the menu easy to understand, and if something isn’t shown clearly on the screen, you can always check the cake display nearby.
Each guest must order one drink (including children). Cakes and tiramisu are ordered separately, while bingsu can be shared between two people.
All cakes at Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm are made using organic flour and 100% dairy cream. The display case is always full of beautifully crafted cakes, and honestly, it’s hard to recommend just one. Every cake looks tempting, tastes fresh, and feels thoughtfully made. This is the kind of place where you want to return again and again, slowly trying every option.
Taste Review at Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm – Desserts That Look as Good as They Taste

The first thing you notice when your order arrives is the color and presentation. Desserts and drinks here are designed with a strong sense of visual balance, and even edible flowers are used with care. It’s no surprise that people instinctively reach for their cameras.

The Passion Fruit & Coconut Ade looks like a sunset in a glass. With tangy passion fruit and chewy coconut jelly, it’s refreshing and lightly sweet. A thick straw is recommended to enjoy the jelly properly, though using a thinner straw makes the flavor feel more subtle.

For milk tea lovers, the Peach Earl Grey Milk Tea is a must. Its soft lilac color is beautiful, but the key is to stir it well. Once mixed, the color fades slightly, but the flavor becomes perfectly balanced—smooth, fragrant, and ideal alongside cake.

The Fresh Fruit Cake truly highlights why this cafe is known for its desserts. Layers are generously filled with fresh fruit, and the cake itself tastes like it came straight out of the baking room. The cream has a light yogurt-like tang rather than heavy sweetness, making each bite refreshing. Eating from the bottom up and saving the fruit topping for last feels like the best way to enjoy it.
Final Thoughts about Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm

Starting the day here with a beautifully made dessert and a calm atmosphere feels like a small luxury. Many people still associate Insadong only with traditional tea houses or end up choosing large chain cafes because they’re unsure where to go. But Insadong Cafe Gaberangsomm offers something better: handmade desserts that are genuinely delicious, a space that feels comforting, and an experience that leaves you feeling satisfied without being overwhelmed.
If you’re looking for a true dessert cafe in Insadong—one that balances flavor, beauty, and atmosphere—this is a place I confidently recommend.
