Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som is a stunning hanok cafe in Seoul famous for its Crème Brûlée Einspänner and chestnut Mont Blanc. A must-visit dessert spot near Jongno 3-ga Station.
Ikseon-dong is always an adventure.
Unlike Seongsu or Euljiro, this neighborhood carries a completely different charm. As you wander through its preserved hanok alleyways, you find yourself falling for the architecture, the interiors, and most of all, the desserts and drinks that make this area one of Seoul’s most exciting cafe districts.
On a surprisingly warm winter afternoon, while strolling through Ikseon-dong, I discovered Montblanc Som, a hanok-style cafe that immediately stood out. If you love crème brûlée, aesthetic spaces, and signature desserts that look as good as they taste, this cafe belongs on your list.

First Impressions of Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som

Even before entering, it becomes clear why Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som is popular on Instagram. Groups of visitors were already taking photos outside. Through the large glass windows, the interior reveals itself — stylish, warm, and distinctly hanok-inspired.
The entrance pathway is beautifully designed. Stone steps and bamboo-lined walkways lead you into a serene courtyard, creating the feeling of stepping into a quiet retreat rather than a busy Seoul neighborhood.
The cafe sign itself resembles a Mont Blanc dessert, reinforcing its identity from the very beginning.
Interior & Atmosphere of Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som

As you step inside, you hear the soft chime of wind bells. The space opens into a hanok-style courtyard framed by wooden beams and tiled rooftops. Traditional rafters and pillars are preserved, while modern elements like a large chandelier create a refined contrast.

The main courtyard seating area features floor cushions and low tea tables. On sunny days, this is easily the best seat in the house. Sitting here, you can look up and see the sky above the traditional rooflines.

There is even a small decorative pond feature in the courtyard, adding to the tranquil atmosphere.
Inside, the cafe is spacious with generous table spacing. Most tables are two-person setups, but they can easily be combined for larger groups. Thanks to the large glass windows, the space feels open and bright throughout the year.
Despite being full, it never feels chaotic.
Ordering System & Menu at Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som
Orders are placed via kiosk. After selecting your items, you input your table number and take a vibration pager.
The menu is focused rather than extensive — clearly built around their signature desserts.
Drink categories include:
- Various Einspänner options
- Coffee
- Ade
- Tea
The highlight is their Crème Brûlée Einspänner, and there are several variations available.
There are also light brunch-style items like sandwiches and eggs Benedict listed on banners, though these did not appear fully integrated into the kiosk system during my visit.
Important notes:
- One drink per person is required
- Cakes are not available for takeout
- Decaffeinated options are not available
As a crème brûlée lover, my choice was immediate: Crème Brûlée Einspänner.
For dessert, I chose the Chestnut Mont Blanc (Bam Mont Blanc).
The Drinks & Desserts at Ikseon-dong Cafe Montblanc Som

When the pager buzzed, I returned to the counter to collect our order. The presentation was refined and almost artistic — closer to plated cuisine than simple cafe desserts.

Crème Brûlée Einspänner

The top layer is torched sugar, forming a crisp caramelized shell.
Breaking it with a straw is part of the experience. That crackling sound and texture are exactly what makes crème brûlée so satisfying.
Once broken, the sweet caramel shards mix into the rich cream and coffee beneath. The result is a beautifully balanced drink — nutty, sweet, creamy, and slightly bitter from the espresso. The contrast between smooth cream and crunchy caramel pieces makes each sip interesting.
It is indulgent, but not overwhelming.
Chestnut Mont Blanc

Visually, the Mont Blanc resembles thin soba-like strands layered carefully over cake — a sculptural dessert.

I had heard that Mont Blanc desserts can be extremely sweet, sometimes overwhelmingly so. However, this one surprised me.
Instead of excessive sweetness, the chestnut flavor was dominant — earthy, nutty, and refined. The cake base was moist and soft, while the chestnut paste was smooth without being cloying.
The whole roasted chestnut on top was carefully selected and added a final gentle sweetness.
It felt elegant rather than heavy.
