Some days just call for fried chicken.

Hyehwa Chicken

Not a maybe—just a must. And honestly, cheat days? They’re part of survival.

So on a recent day out in Hyehwa with my mom—who happens to be the biggest chicken lover in our family—we had one mission: find a really good chicken spot in Daehangno.

That’s how we ended up at Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak, a place that’s been gaining serious popularity since bringing one of Daegu’s most famous fried chicken styles to Seoul.

A Chicken Spot That Feels Bigger Than Expected

If you’re picturing a small Korean pub or a typical “chimaek” place, this is not that. Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak is surprisingly large, lively, and full of energy.

It’s not just for one type of crowd either—you’ll see everyone from students to older groups, all enjoying fried chicken and beer together.

That’s when you know a place is doing something right.

Interior of Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken : Three Different Spaces, Three Different Vibes

Hyehwa Chicken

One of the most interesting things about Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak is how the space is divided.

Hyehwa Chicken

Private Group Area

Right at the entrance, there’s a semi-private hall designed for group gatherings. It can accommodate around 8 to 24 people, making it perfect for: team dinners, group hangouts, or casual celebrations.

Main Dining Hall

Walking further in, you’ll find the main indoor seating area with round tables. It’s cozy, social, and already buzzing with people enjoying their food and drinks.

Terrace-Style Tiered Seating

And then—the highlight.

A stepped, terrace-style seating area that feels like an outdoor beer garden. Even though it’s covered and protected,
it gives you that open-air “yard” vibe that’s rare for chicken places.

Interestingly, the crowd here is incredibly diverse.

At one moment you see older groups, and as the night goes on, younger crowds start filling the space.

The iced beer came in chilled glasses—which instantly sets the mood for a proper cheat day.

The peach dish was more like a fruit cocktail than just sliced peaches, refreshing and slightly sweet, perfect as a starter.

The Chicken (The Star)

When the chicken arrived, the first thing we noticed was the portion.

Even a “half-half” order felt generous— definitely not small by any standard.

Served neatly with pickled radish, macaroni salad, and dipping sauces, everything looked clean and well-prepared.

Fried Chicken

Hyehwa Chicken

The fried chicken was bite-sized and incredibly easy to eat.

What stood out most was the texture: crispy on the outside, chewy and juicy on the inside.

The grain-based batter gave it a slightly nutty flavor, making it delicious even without sauce.

Seasoned Chicken (Must-Try)

Hyehwa Chicken

This is where things got addictive.

The seasoned chicken hits that perfect Korean flavor balance:
spicy, sweet, and salty all at once.

With extra toppings and sauce, every bite feels rich and satisfying.

It’s the kind of flavor that keeps you reaching for one more piece—even when you’re already full.

Final Thoughts about Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak Korean Fried Chicken

By the end of the meal, we realized something important.

We had ordered way more than two people could handle.

We actually had to call my dad to come help finish it—which says a lot about the portion size.

But more than that, it was just… really satisfying.

Hyehwa Chicken Samdeok Tongdak isn’t just another chicken place.

It’s:

  • lively
  • generous
  • flavorful
  • and built for sharing

If you’re exploring Daehangno, or just looking for a solid Korean fried chicken spot with great atmosphere, this is one of those places you’ll want to experience at least once.

And once you do— there’s a high chance you’ll be back for another cheat day.
