Hyehwa Cafe Britresso Review: A Charming British-Style Afternoon Tea Experience in Seoul
Recently, I came across a café near Hyehwa Station that immediately caught my attention.
Located on a quiet hillside street in Dongsoong-dong, away from the busy restaurant-filled main roads of Hyehwa, Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso was created with a unique vision: to become more than just a café. Inspired by the social coffee houses of 16th-century Britain, it aims to be a place where people gather, connect, and enjoy meaningful conversations over coffee and desserts.
Every photo and video I saw online featured warm sunlight pouring through large windows, vintage furniture resting on dark wooden floors, and an atmosphere that felt straight out of an old English manor house.
Then there was the afternoon tea set.
While traditional British afternoon tea is often associated with luxury hotels and expensive tea rooms, Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso offers a beautiful two-tier afternoon tea set for only 15,000 KRW, making it one of the most affordable afternoon tea experiences in Seoul.
Needless to say, I saved it immediately and finally visited when I had plans near Hyehwa.

Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso is located about a 6-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hyehwa Station.
After leaving the station, simply walk past the CU convenience store and Starbucks, then follow the small uphill street into a quieter residential area.
A white building soon appears, and Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso is located on the second floor.
Although driving is possible, the narrow neighborhood streets are not particularly convenient for vehicles. I personally recommend using a nearby public parking lot such as the one operated by the Arko Arts Center if you’re visiting by car.

Interior & Atmosphere of Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso
A short walk uphill brings you to one of the most atmospheric cafés I’ve visited recently.
The first thing that catches your attention is the large natural marble counter positioned at the center of the café.
Around it are several seating areas divided into a main hall and a smaller secondary hall.
Before I even sat down, the staff welcomed me with a refreshing complimentary welcome drink—a thoughtful touch on a warm afternoon.
One of the most charming details inside Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso is the collection of vintage items available for guests to enjoy.
There is a typewriter and a Polaroid camera placed in one corner, allowing visitors to interact with them freely.
For couples, this creates a fun date activity. Families visiting with children can also introduce younger generations to objects they may have never seen before.
I couldn’t resist trying the typewriter myself and spent a few minutes slowly typing out my name.
A Café Filled with Sunlight
After choosing a seat, I finally had the chance to experience the space I had only seen on Instagram.
The atmosphere was even better in person.
Dark wooden floors create a calm foundation, while antique-style wooden tables resemble old English hardwood flooring.
Warm sunlight streams through the large windows, creating one of the most beautiful naturally lit café interiors I’ve seen in Seoul.
The yellow floral wallpaper adds a vintage touch that perfectly complements the café’s British-inspired concept.
Despite visiting on a weekday afternoon, Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso was surprisingly busy.
Most tables are designed for two people, making it particularly popular for dates and casual meetups. If you have your eye on a specific window seat, arriving earlier is definitely recommended.

While the interior feels elegant and sophisticated, the menu itself is surprisingly approachable.
Because Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso is inspired by traditional British coffee houses, the drink selection is extensive.
Coffee lovers will find plenty of unique signature drinks unavailable elsewhere.

Of course, my primary reason for visiting was the famous Afternoon Tea Set, which costs only 15,000 KRW.
Considering the presentation and quality, the price feels almost unbelievable.
After selecting the tea set, I also ordered one of the recommended desserts and a signature coffee.

When everything arrived on a tray, I immediately understood why Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso has become so popular online.
The presentation alone looked far more expensive than its actual price.
Royal White
The Royal White comes with a small presentation ritual.
The orange garnish is lightly torched, creating a subtle aroma before the staff adds rock candy and orange peel to the drink.
The result is a coffee with distinct layers of flavor and fragrance.
Rich cream sits on top, adding a velvety texture that pairs beautifully with the low-acidity espresso beneath.
It was easily one of the most memorable coffee drinks I’ve had recently.
The 15,000 KRW Afternoon Tea Set
The two-tier afternoon tea stand includes:

Britresso offers several Tigre flavors including:

I chose Plain, Earl Grey, and Matcha.
For those unfamiliar with Tigre, it’s a French pastry named after the French word for “tiger” due to the striped appearance created by the cream filling inside.
Texture-wise, it feels somewhat similar to a financier but with a richer cream center.
Each flavor had its own personality, and I genuinely believe Tigre could become one of Korea’s next trending desserts.
The homemade scones were equally impressive.
Unlike some traditional British scones that can be quite dry, these maintained a soft texture while still delivering a rich buttery flavor.
Paired with strawberry jam or yogurt cream, they were incredibly satisfying.
For only 15,000 KRW, it felt like enjoying a miniature British afternoon tea experience right in the heart of Seoul.
Lemon Posset Crumble
One additional dessert was recommended by the owner, and thankfully I listened.
The Lemon Posset Crumble ended up becoming one of my favorite items of the day.
Creamy, refreshing, and bright with citrus flavor, it reminded me slightly of Greek yogurt while maintaining its own distinct character.
The buttery crumble topping added texture, while the blueberries provided little bursts of sweetness throughout.
It was the perfect balance of rich and refreshing.
Final Thoughts about Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso
Hyehwa Cafe, Britresso had been sitting in my saved Instagram folder for quite some time.
After finally visiting, I can confidently say the experience exceeded my expectations.
The atmosphere feels even better in person than it does online.
The warm sunlight moving through the space throughout the afternoon creates an environment that makes you want to stay for hours.
Most importantly, the value is outstanding.
The beautifully presented afternoon tea set, handcrafted desserts, thoughtful service, and unique British coffee house concept all combine to create one of the most memorable café experiences near Hyehwa Station.
