Located near my personal favorites around Hannam Ogeori—including spots like Mirae Hoegwan and Losok—the restaurant had always caught my attention while passing by. After finally visiting, the result was complete satisfaction. Even my companion, who usually avoids strong spices and bold aromas, enjoyed the food comfortably, making this a great introduction to Hong Kong cuisine for beginners as well.

Valet parking is available at the shared valet booth in front of the GS convenience store near Hannam Ogeori. The standard valet fee is 5,000 KRW, and Hannam Sogwan uses this same system, making arrival and departure stress-free.
Descending the stairs to the basement already feels like stepping into another city. The playful signage and lighting turn the entrance into a photo spot before you even walk inside.

From the moment you enter, the atmosphere changes completely. Red neon signs, warm crimson lighting, and moody shadows recreate the feeling of Hong Kong’s night streets. It genuinely feels like stepping into a different country in the middle of Seoul.
To enhance the local street-food vibe, the restaurant uses mostly round tables in a casual pocha-style setup. There are several table sizes, making it suitable for couples on a date or groups of friends looking to enjoy food and drinks together.
Even on a weekday evening with unpredictable winter weather, the restaurant filled up quickly. Many guests clearly seemed like regulars, arriving in groups. We started with cold Tsingtao beer and a light toast, setting the mood for the evening. Alongside it, we ordered an iced oolong peach drink, served with a separate ice cup and a playful label design that immediately caught the eye.
The complimentary side dishes—roasted peanuts and pickled radish—were surprisingly addictive. Perfectly seasoned peanuts and uniquely flavored radish made us finish the entire plate before the main dishes even arrived. We ended up asking for refills without hesitation.
The dishes arrived quickly, showcasing the efficiency typical of Chinese kitchens.
- Chao Fan (Fried Rice):
A satisfying mix of shrimp and chicken with perfectly seasoned rice. Light yet flavorful, it was the kind of dish you keep eating even when you’re already full.
- Mapo Eggplant:
Served bubbling hot in a stone pot, this dish delivered bold flavors reminiscent of authentic local restaurants in Macau and Hong Kong. The sauce was rich, spicy, and deeply comforting—perfect over rice.
- Chongqing-style Fried Chicken Wings:
Topped generously with chili, peanuts, and cilantro. By adjusting how much seasoning we used, both spice lovers and non-spice eaters could enjoy it. A squeeze of lemon added a refreshing balance.
Each dish stayed true to its Hong Kong roots, offering flavors that felt genuinely authentic rather than adapted.
