Cafe for working near Konkuk University, MK Gallery Studio is a peaceful gallery café where you can focus on your work.
Recently, I’ve become more interested in gallery studio spaces—places that are both a café and an art gallery. These kinds of spaces also double as creative studios, where you can work or even run a workshop.
I used to operate a gallery studio café in Seoul, after came back New York for about two years. Although I closed it due to the challenges of running a physical space, the idea of managing a gallery studio café is still very close to my heart, and it’s something I want to pursue again in the future.
So, when I came across MK Gallery Studio in Hwayang-dong near Konkuk University, I knew I had to visit. This café is located conveniently close to Children’s Grand Park Station and Konkuk University Station.

First Impressions of Cafe for working near Konkuk University, MK Gallery Studio
From the outside, the building looks like a typical office building, giving no hints of what’s inside. However, when you step closer to the first floor, you’ll notice the familiar smell of oil paint that signals this is no ordinary café.
As I entered the building, I saw a modest A4 paper menu on the stairs—subtle yet informative. But once you start climbing the stairs, the mood completely changes.
Interior Space of Cafe for working near Konkuk University, MK Gallery Studio
In contrast to the cold concrete exterior, the inside has a sleek, artistic, hotel lounge vibe with large open windows that make the space feel expansive.
The main color scheme is black, accentuated with wine-red and white tones. You can tell that the space is thoughtfully curated, with various art pieces by the resident artist adorning the walls.
One of the first things that caught my eye was the beautiful dried eucalyptus arrangement, adding to the gallery’s sophisticated atmosphere.
MK Gallery Studio offers more than just coffee—there’s a selection of wine and various beverages available throughout the day.
Books on art, aesthetics, and design are scattered around the café, making it a perfect spot for those who want to relax with some quality reading material.
When I visited, it was a busy weekend afternoon, and every seat was filled. Couples were enjoying time together, solo guests were working or reading, and groups of friends were chilling with wine and dessert.

The café’s menu is displayed on a MacBook screen, with clear, easy-to-read font. The café offers snacks, various drinks, and a selection of red and white wines, all of which are listed in a small booklet.
I ordered the café’s most famous dessert, Homemade Tiramisu (8,000 KRW), and a refreshing Cherry Ade (6,500 KRW) to go with it.
Food Taste of Cafe for working near Konkuk University, MK Gallery Studio
Watching the staff carefully sift the cocoa powder onto the tiramisu gave me high expectations, and I wasn’t disappointed!
The tiramisu and cherry ade were both served promptly, and I was lucky enough to snag a window seat. While the outside view is just a regular neighborhood street, the chic, modern interior of the café made me feel as though I was in an exclusive art gallery.
The tiramisu was delightful. The cake was cut into neat, bite-sized squares, and the texture was soft and perfectly moist—unlike the typical dry tiramisu served elsewhere. The layers were rich with mascarpone, and each bite melted in my mouth like cotton candy. It was the kind of dessert that you want to savor slowly, a standout treat.
The cherry ade was less sweet than expected, which I appreciated. The fizzy, cold drink was refreshing, though I think next time I’ll pair the tiramisu with wine or coffee for a better flavor balance.
Working at MK Gallery Studio
After enjoying the dessert, I settled into work mode. The café’s long communal tables and individual round tables make it ideal for anyone looking to work on a laptop or read a book.
Every table is equipped with outlets, ensuring your devices stay charged, and the peaceful ambiance helps maintain focus.
By evening, the café started to empty out, leaving just me typing away on my laptop. The quiet, coupled with the soft background music, made it the perfect setting for productive work.
I also had the chance to tour the first-floor studio, where art classes are held.
The studio smelled of oil paint, and I could see some of the artist’s works alongside those of the students currently attending classes.
Conclusion
MK Gallery Studio is the kind of space where you can comfortably spend an entire day. Whether you’re working solo, having a casual date, or enjoying dessert and wine with friends,
it’s a versatile venue that caters to all types of guests. The atmosphere, the thoughtful layout, and the attention to detail make it a memorable experience.
Next time, I’ll definitely come back with friends for a bottle of wine and another helping of their excellent tiramisu.
