The café is part of a larger project aimed at revitalizing the Myeongdong area after the COVID-19 pandemic. From the moment you walk in, you’ll notice the unique vibe that sets Cream Chic apart from typical Myeongdong spots. If you have trouble spotting the café, just look out for the giant milk ice cream sculpture—a signature piece outside the shop.

The main space is organized around a large central counter and open kitchen. On the right, there’s a space dedicated to merchandise, where you can purchase beautifully packaged meringue in various colors and other goodies. The café also sells adorable mini desserts, perfect for gifts or personal treats. The cozy atmosphere, spacious seating, and clever lighting design give the café a sense of openness, making it a great spot to relax or get some work done.

The counter is packed with irresistible desserts, from financiers and canelés to donuts and salted bread. Every dessert looks so good, you might have a hard time choosing. The portions are smaller than usual, which makes you want to try a bit of everything. They even have a selection of visually perfect cakes in the fridge, making it a dessert lover’s paradise.

In addition to the café staples, they also serve Hendrick’s and hibiscus highballs, making it a great spot for afternoon drinks. But since Myeongdong café, Cream Chic’s Einspänner came highly recommended, I ordered that, while my companion went for the house-made vanilla latte.

The café has a lovely brown and gray tone with wood and stone finishes, and the space is filled with international guests, likely because of its reputation for delicious desserts and coffee.

I always like to test the density of an Einspänner by spooning through the top cream layer. Cream Chic’s Einspänner was perfect, with just the right balance of smoothness and sweetness—probably one of the best I’ve had this year. The gradient of the coffee in the glass was visually stunning, too.

I also had a taste of my friend’s vanilla latte, which was sweet but not overwhelming—just right.

As for the desserts, the almond financier was loaded with almonds, and while it wasn’t the easiest to cut, it was worth the effort. The butter flavor was subtle, so if you prefer a less buttery financier, this one is for you. It has a light flavor that older adults would also appreciate, making it a great gift.

The Yakgwa Nut was on-trend, following the popular fusion of traditional Korean yakgwa and donuts. It was a bit easier to eat with your hands than with a knife, and the balance of sweetness and texture was just right for those who enjoy a slightly dense, chewy dessert.

Cream Chic is the kind of place that offers a trendy yet refined experience in a space full of international visitors. Myeongdong is slowly recovering from the pandemic, and while the area is now home to many large franchises, this café offers a refreshing alternative.
